A Breed Apart: The Unofficial Wes Craven Sequel That Will Shock Horror Fans!

For over a decade now, we’ve been without the legendary director, Wes Craven, yet his impact continues to thrive. Known as the horror maestro, he directed several iconic films such as “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Scream”, and produced numerous other spine-tingling movies. One of his last creations was “The Breed” in 2006, a chilling tale set on an island cabin involving vicious dogs. Now, nearly two decades later, the sequel titled “A Breed Apart” is being unveiled to audiences by Lionsgate, with Griff and Nathan Furst at the helm. In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb, the filmmaker duo shared insights into their innovative follow-up to “The Breed”, a film that interestingly weaves the actual production of Craven’s 2006 movie into its narrative itself.

Griff Furst shared with MovieWeb that the upcoming film isn’t an original idea but one they were approached with. An executive producer, who holds the rights to the first “The Breed”, proposed a sequel titled “Breed 2“. The team watched the original “The Breed” and found it to be a typical creature movie of its time. However, they felt it might not appeal to their intended audience due to its straightforward approach. Furst expressed his desire to make the sequel distinctive, avoiding another standard creature feature. Instead, he suggested making it a comedy.

Griff went on, sharing that the tale within this film deviates significantly from the typical pattern of a horror sequel. He elaborated:

Griff continued by discussing how the story inside the movie departs markedly from the common thread of a horror sequel’s plotline. He clarified:

Griff proceeded to explain that the narrative enclosed within this film diverges significantly from the usual trajectory of a horror sequel’s plot. He detailed:

Later on, Nathan devised the concept for the movie-within-a-movie, which I found intriguing since it was something fresh and distinct from my previous work and typical sequels. To put it simply, it was unique enough to catch my attention, so we went ahead with it. Initially, it was intended to be an official sequel, but we decided to make it more of a sequel inspired by the original idea instead.

The Furst Brothers Now Working on an Old-School, ‘Speed’-Esque Action Movie Send-up

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about “A Breed Apart,” which is the Furst brothers’ second jointly directed feature film. However, their shared directorial journey in cinema goes way back for many decades, as they revealed to MovieWeb. And that’s not all, there’s more cinematic magic to come from these talented directors beyond “A Breed Apart.

For the past three years, I’ve been crafting a screenplay that I’ve finally wrapped up, and let me tell you, I’m thrilled about it! This action-packed script is reminiscent of classic movies like ‘Speed’ or ‘Beverly Hills Cop’, but with a generous dose of humor woven throughout. It’s not just an action genre; it’s a nostalgic, straight-up parody, but with plenty of laughs to keep you entertained from start to finish. And let me assure you, the comedy aspect is deeply intertwined with the plotline.

Nathan went on to say, “We’ve been planning a stoner comedy, which we hope to start working on soon. However, our latest project is an action-comedy with a very distinct feel compared to the movie A Breed Apart. For now, you can catch A Breed Apart in theaters, on demand, and digitally.
