The Jumanji series will conclude in 2026, after more than 30 years and a recent revival. It all started in 1995 with a film about a magical board game that unexpectedly pulled two children into a dangerous world. They discovered and freed a man—played by Robin Williams—who had been stuck there for years. The franchise was reimagined in 2017 with Welcome to the Jungle, and continued with 2019’s The Next Level. These newer films centered around a magical video game, with players embodying in-game characters portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black.
Dwayne Johnson, known for playing Dr. Smolder Bravestone in Jumanji, announced on Instagram that filming has begun for the next movie, The Next Level. He described it as a big, exciting, and emotional adventure. However, he also shared that this will be the last Jumanji film.
Dwayne Johnson said he believes it’s the right time to end the Jumanji movie series with their next film. He announced that the currently untitled movie is scheduled for release on December 11, 2026, and production will begin soon in Los Angeles.
We’ve officially started making the next ‘Jumanji’ movie! We had our first table read with the cast in Los Angeles, and that’s where we’ll be filming. It’s going to be a huge, exciting, and touching story. It feels like the perfect way to end the ‘Jumanji’ series – with a beautiful and satisfying conclusion.
In March 2023, actor Kevin Hart suggested that a fourth Jumanji movie would likely be the last. Dwayne Johnson has now officially confirmed that the Jumanji series is coming to an end.
The actor finished his statement by saying he’s thrilled to work with the Jumanji team again. He hinted that the new movie will be very funny, explaining that everyone’s “jaws hurt from laughing” during a recent read-through of the script.
It was fantastic having everyone together again – we laughed until our faces hurt! We realized how much we’ve missed moments like these, and we definitely need to do it again soon.
Jumanji 4 Could Kick Off a Huge Year for Dwayne Johnson

Many people doubted a new Jumanji movie would work, particularly because it moved away from the original board game concept and updated it with a video game setting. However, the three films starring Dwayne Johnson have proven to be surprisingly popular and successful.
The Jumanji films, Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level, have been huge successes, earning $962 million and $802 million worldwide, respectively. Excluding the James Bond movies Skyfall and Spectre, these two Jumanji installments are Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing films that aren’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, proving the franchise was a major win.
So, it looks like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is going to be very busy in 2026! While we’re all still anticipating another Jumanji film, Disney has confirmed he’ll be reprising his role as Maui in the live-action Moana remake. And get this – he’ll be joined by newcomer Catherine Laga’aia. It’s great to see him returning to that world, and I’m definitely curious to see how this new take on the story shapes up.
Dwayne Johnson could have one of his most financially successful years yet if the next installments of Jumanji and Moana perform as well as their previous films. 2025 was already a strong year for the actor, with Moana 2 earning over $1 billion worldwide. Although his indie film, The Smashing Machine, didn’t do well in theaters, his performance was highly praised and could lead to Best Actor award nominations.
