Dana Terrace, the creator of ‘The Owl House,’ has publicly criticized Disney+’s intention to include AI-generated content. She encouraged fans to cancel their subscriptions and seek out the show through unofficial means as a form of protest.
Disney CEO Bob Iger recently caused a stir by revealing plans to add short videos created by users to their streaming platform, powered by artificial intelligence.
During a recent Disney earnings call, Iger explained that AI will allow Disney+ to offer a more interactive experience for users. This includes letting people create and share their own short videos, as well as watch content created by other users, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Disney CEO Bob Iger described the update as the largest and most important change to the streaming service since its launch in 2019. However, the decision isn’t universally supported.
Owl House creator Dana Terrace urges fans to “unsubscribe” from Disney+

Dana Terrace created the popular Disney Channel show, The Owl House, which premiered in 2020 and featured 43 episodes over three seasons.
Terrace strongly opposes the studio’s plans, expressing their frustration on Twitter with a post saying they’d rather illegally download ‘The Owl House’ than support Disney+ due to their use of generative AI. They ended the post with a strong expletive.
Terrace started a heated online rant by posting a news article on X (formerly Twitter) with the message: “PICK UP A PENCIL OR DIE.”
Terrace responded to the proposed features by sarcastically suggesting that users would essentially be creating content for the company to own, even though they would be able to create and post freely. They strongly criticized Bob Iger and other company leaders, using harsh language to express their disapproval.
Terrace pointed out that anyone can make movies, even without AI. He emphasized that directors, artists, and filmmakers are ‘regular people’ who create art daily, using whatever tools they have available – pens, pencils, or digital styluses – to bring their visions to life.
You can watch The Owl House now on Disney+. You can also find out more about why fans were disappointed when Disney cancelled the show.
