The ‘Unexpected Initiative‘ quest in Arc Raiders requires you to find Fertilizer and a Water Pump in the Buried City. These items are located at two nearby spots, and this guide will tell you exactly where to find them.
Okay, so for this quest, the game will give you Fertilizer and a Water Pump, but you don’t have to rely on that. You can bring your own if you’ve already found some! Just keep in mind, you need to complete the whole thing in one Buried City raid, so you still have to actually go to both spots and grab those items to mark the quest as done. Honestly, I always bring an augment with two safe pockets with me for this. That way, even if things go south and I don’t make it out, at least I’ve got the Fertilizer and Water Pump secured!
Let’s dive into where to find the Fertilizer and Water Pump for the Unexpected Initiatives quest.
Where to find Fertilizer at the Grandioso Apartments
The Grandioso Apartments are on the west side of the Buried City map. It’s a big apartment complex that attracts players looking for good loot. Be careful of other players and prepared to defend yourself if you encounter them.

Once you get here, use the indoor zipline to reach the top floor, and then climb the stairs next to it to get to the roof.

You can find fertilizer in a few orange pots around here. Put it somewhere safe, like a pocket, and then go to the Piazza Roma area to continue.
Where to find a Water Pump at the broken rooftop gardens at Piazza Roma
Piazza Roma is a short walk northeast of the Grandioso Apartments, right after you pick up the Fertilizer. The area has several buildings, but you’re looking for the one highlighted in the picture below. It’s usually pretty quiet, so you likely won’t encounter other players unless they’re also working on this quest.

Okay, so when I got there, the fastest way up was to head between those two buildings – you’ll spot a yellow ladder right away. It takes you straight to the roof! You can go through the building itself, but honestly, the ladder is way quicker.

Go up to the roof and find the water pump in the corner by the big planters. Take the pump and put it somewhere safe to carry.

Okay, so I managed to grab the Fertilizer and Water Pump! Now the quest says to head to the nearest working metro station and get back to Speranza. Once I’m safely back there, that’ll complete this part and I can move on to the next thing. Fingers crossed the metro still runs!
