After a long development period, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – the latest installment featuring bounty hunter Samus Aran – will be released in just a few weeks. Nintendo recently released a new, detailed trailer that introduces the game’s story, showcases Samus’s updated abilities, and confirms she’ll have help from allies on the planet Viewros. However, the trailer also reveals that Samus is currently trapped on this dangerous world and has no clear way to escape.
The trailer begins with Samus responding to a distress signal from a Galactic Federation research center under attack by her enemy, Sylux. The fight somehow sends Samus to a dangerous, unfamiliar planet called Viewros. A few Federation soldiers also made it to Viewros, but with no ship, Samus and her companions might be stranded there permanently.
Metroid Prime 4 brings back all of Samus’s classic moves, and introduces new abilities like psychic powers. These powers let her precisely aim shots and activate old machines on the planet Viewros. TopMob recently got to test out these new psychic abilities in a preview of the game.
The game features a diverse world with different environments, including deserts and abandoned factories. Players control Samus as she explores on her motorcycle, the Vi-0-La, which she can call upon at any time, even inside the factories. When riding the Vi-0-La, the game switches from a first-person perspective to a third-person view.
Metroid Prime 4 is launching on December 4th for both the Switch and the new Switch 2. While both versions will be playable with standard controls, the Switch 2 offers an optional mouse control scheme using the new Joy-Con 2, allowing for more precise aiming. The game lets you easily switch between the standard and mouse control options whenever you like.
