Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO Is Skipping PS5 For Now

Sony and NCSoft (the studio behind Guild Wars) are creating a new Horizon game called Horizon Steel Frontiers for both mobile and PC. It’s an online multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG) that takes inspiration from the Monster Hunter series, but features robotic creatures instead of animals. PC players will be able to access the game through NCSoft’s Purple platform.

Horizon Steel Frontiers, created with Guerrilla Games (the team behind Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West), takes place in the dangerous Deadlands. Players become Machine Hunters, customizing their characters and joining massive raids to gather resources. The game features a new, improved combat system. While no release date has been announced, it’s unusual for a Horizon game not to be coming to PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4, given the series’ history.

So, Sony just sued Tencent, a huge company, and it’s pretty wild. They’re saying Tencent basically ripped off Horizon – they called their game, ‘Light of Motiram,’ a straight-up clone. It’s a big deal because Sony feels like they totally copied the look and feel of my favorite Horizon games!

The Horizon series has expanded significantly since its debut in 2017, with new stories, a sequel, and even spin-off games like Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Lego Horizon Adventures. Guerrilla Games announced in 2023 they were creating Aloy’s next chapter, and there are reports they’re also working on a separate multiplayer game with a unique visual style.

A live-action Horizon movie is being made and is expected to start filming in 2026.
