Rewatching The Fantastic Four: First Steps On Disney+ Reveals Its Harshest Reality

Recently released on Disney+, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a highly anticipated Marvel movie. While it’s enjoyable, a second viewing reveals the film could have been even stronger. Despite initial reservations, the actors playing the Fantastic Four ultimately proved to be a great fit.

The acting was solid throughout, and I especially enjoyed the post-credits scene in The Fantastic Four: First Steps – it cleverly hinted at the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and introduced Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. The 2025 movie had a compelling story, impressive special effects, and a unique retro-futuristic aesthetic. However, Marvel fell short in one particular area.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Does Not Use The MCU Heroes’ Powers Much

As a big superhero movie fan, one of the things I always look forward to is seeing the heroes use their powers. The Fantastic Four are great because everyone does something totally different, which makes them a fun team. Honestly, I was a little disappointed we didn’t get to see more of that in the new movie. Like, we barely saw Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards really stretch – I was hoping for a lot more of that!

The recent Fantastic Four movie didn’t showcase Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) performing impressive feats like the version played by Ioan Gruffudd, who saved the London Eye. While the film established Galactus as a powerful being capable of destroying planets, the final battle with him felt underwhelming. Essentially, the climax involved Sue Storm using her powers to push Galactus around New York City.

I was really hoping the movie would showcase the Fantastic Four’s unique abilities, and especially how they could use those powers in imaginative ways. The idea of them battling Galactus, with Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, felt like a great opportunity for some exciting action, and hopefully Marvel will deliver on that potential in the future.

How The MCU Can Already Fix The Fantastic Four’s Powers Issue In 2026

I’m so excited for the Fantastic Four to come back! From what I’ve heard, they’re going to be really important in the next Avengers movie, Doomsday, coming out in 2026. And it’s even more interesting because of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom – remember him meeting Franklin Richards? If Doom tries anything with that child, I think the Fantastic Four will definitely be the ones to go after him, and it’s going to be epic!

Doctor Doom’s arrival, along with the possibility of crossovers between the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers and the X-Men from Fox’s films, will give the Fantastic Four a chance to really showcase their abilities in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie is shaping up to be similar in style to Infinity War – with Doctor Doom filling the villain role previously held by Thanos – and promises a fast-paced, action-packed experience, addressing the main weakness of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
