Police in Texas shot and killed food blogger Michael Duarte, who was known as FoodWithBearHands, after he reportedly threatened law enforcement officers during an encounter in November.
On November 8th, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a man acting strangely and carrying a knife in Castroville, Texas. Deputies arrived to find the man, identified as Duarte, allegedly approaching an officer in a threatening way while paramedics were also present.
According to the sheriff’s office, Duarte didn’t follow repeated orders to get on the ground and then aggressively moved toward the deputy, threatening to kill them. The deputy responded by firing two shots, hitting Duarte. He received initial treatment at the scene before being transported to University Hospital in San Antonio, where he was pronounced dead.

Police confirm FoodWithBearHands’ cause of death
The news about Duarte’s death first emerged when his agency, Alooma Media Group, announced he had passed away on November 9th. Initially, a family GoFundMe described his death as a tragic accident during a trip to Texas and didn’t mention any involvement with the police. The family and agency haven’t released a statement regarding the newer reports.
Grill master Duarte, popular on social media with over two million followers across platforms like TikTok and Instagram, recently passed away. His death followed closely after he celebrated his wedding anniversary with his wife, Jessica, and the couple shared a young daughter, age six.
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t released information about whether the deputy involved was wearing a body camera or if they are still working. They are currently investigating the shooting.
