Some of my first memories are all about Pokémon. I grew up watching the original anime, playing the Red and Blue games on Game Boy with my sister, and even collecting the trading cards, even though I didn’t really understand them. Pokémon is deeply ingrained in who I am, and even when the newer games haven’t quite hit the mark, I still adore the franchise.
Many fans feel the Pokémon universe has a lot of untapped potential. While more complex RPGs would be great, I’d love to see games that truly let you explore and experience the world from different perspectives. I want to interact with Pokémon and people, and learn more about the fascinating aspects of this world that we’ve only briefly seen. Ultimately, I want games that let you live in the Pokémon world, and these are the kinds of ideas I’d love to see turned into new games.
10. Run A Pokémon Grooming Salon
An Excuse For Petting

Pokémon games starting with the fifth generation included fun little features called Pokémon-Amie and Pokémon Refresh, letting players interact with and build relationships with their Pokémon by petting them. While these were charming, they felt a little underdeveloped, likely due to the limitations of the 3DS. I’d love to see a future game that fully realizes this idea – a high-definition experience where you can pet every Pokémon, with realistic fur or even slime textures!
Simply petting Pokémon isn’t enough for a game, so let’s imagine a grooming salon for all types of Pokémon! Trainers could bring in their Pokémon – big or small, fluffy or tough, like a Wigglytuff or even a Golem – and choose from a variety of cleaning and pampering services.
After cleaning each creature, we’d get to enjoy petting their soft, clean fur and listening to their happy sounds. If we used the Switch 2 with mouse controls, it would be simple to do, and the improved graphics would let us see every detail – from fur and scales to rocks and even glowing ectoplasm – in stunning high definition.
9. Train For Pokémon Contests
Dawn Made It Look Fun
Pokémon Contests first appeared in the third generation of games and were further developed in the fourth. Unlike traditional battles, they were designed to let Pokémon showcase their qualities and abilities with impressive moves, entertaining the audience. However, in reality, Contests often ended up feeling like standard battles performed without an opponent, judged based on somewhat random categories for each move.
I’ve always wished for a Pokémon game that wasn’t so focused on fighting. A game centered around Pokémon Contests could be a great way to achieve that! Imagine skipping the usual traveling and gym battles and instead concentrating on training just a few Pokémon to become contest champions. You could even add features like grooming salons to make your Pokémon look their best and have them perform cool, showy moves.
When it’s time for a real competition, we could have a series of quick mini-games, similar to those in Chao Racing or Uma Musume. You’d give instructions, but the Pokémon would largely perform based on how they’ve been trained. This would feel more engaging than simply watching experience points increase.
8. Manage A Pokémon-Filled City
Anything’s Better Than More Wild Zones
Honestly, playing Pokémon Legends Z-A, it feels like the folks in charge – Quasartico and the city government – are totally lost when it comes to making a city work for both people and Pokémon. I get it, it’s not easy, but constantly carving out more and more of the city into these ‘Wild Zones’ just doesn’t seem right, especially when it looks like people used to live and work in those areas.
To really showcase this concept, we need a complete Pokémon city-building game. We could create something straightforward – like managing a town next to a Pokémon habitat and ensuring everyone gets along – or we could go all-out with a detailed experience similar to SimCity. That would involve large-scale planning and development, choosing what to build and where, all while considering the needs of both people and Pokémon.
Beyond just building the physical spaces, you could create rules and social guidelines to help people and Pokémon coexist peacefully. These would need to balance togetherness with the ability for everyone to flourish on their own. It would be a challenging task, but then again, building any successful city is difficult – and that’s exactly why it’s a worthwhile endeavor.
7. Work Jobs Relevant To Pokémon
Not Every Pokémon Works In A Café
The Pokémon world is built on the idea that humans and Pokémon collaborate in everyday life. We’ve glimpsed this in things like Machokes helping with construction or Voltorbs providing electricity. However, in the games and anime, the most we’ve seen of Pokémon actually working professionally is through charming café settings.
I’m interested in creating opportunities to interact with Pokémon in a work-like environment. We could achieve this through a series of mini-games where players take on jobs alongside Pokémon – for example, directing Machokes and Gurdurrs at a construction site, driving a taxi with a Corviknight, or assisting Chansey at a Pokémon Center or hospital.
These small games could be added to the Pokémon city management concept, popping up when you need to personally handle difficult problems that your workers and Pokémon can’t solve on their own.
6. Run My Own Pokémon Gym
Make Your Own Annoying Gimmicks
It’s still a bit of a mystery how Pokémon Gyms are actually set up, even after all this time. It seems like the Pokémon League probably chooses a really skilled Trainer and puts them in charge of a Gym in a major city. It would be amazing to run a Gym like that, especially if you could design and build it yourself.
A Pokémon Gym game could offer two main parts: battling Pokémon and building/running your own Gym. You’d design the Gym’s layout and challenges, choosing a specific Pokémon type for your Leader and Trainers, and then creating puzzles based on that type. Let’s be honest, we’ve all wanted to design those puzzles ourselves!
I’m not sure how this would work as a single-player game, so it might be better suited for online play, similar to Mario Maker. Players could create their own gyms and challenge others online to see who can complete them the quickest and with the highest score.
5. Start My Own Evil Team
Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em
The Pokémon Company usually keeps things very family-friendly, but I wish we could play a villain for once. There are always bad teams causing trouble in the Pokémon world, so why not let us be the ones starting the mischief? It would be fun to get a head start and be the bad guys for a change.
We have a couple of options for how to approach this, and it really depends on the type of game we want to create. One idea is to make a straightforward ‘evil team’ that commits crimes and kidnaps Pokémon – maybe for profit or because of a twisted belief system. This could lead to a management simulator, similar to games like ‘Honey, I Joined A Cult,’ where you oversee the team’s activities from a high level, like Giovanni, without directly participating.
We could also let players directly control characters who go out and collect Pokémon through somewhat chaotic means – like taking them from a rival team. It’d be a more involved process, potentially tricky to approve, but we could justify it with a story similar to Saints Row or Pokémon Coliseum, where the player is building a team to fight a greater evil and ‘rescue’ Pokémon from them.
4. Be A Sitting League Champion
No One’s Taking My Title
Every Pokémon game follows a familiar pattern: you defeat all the Gym Leaders, overcome the Elite Four, and ultimately defeat the Champion. But strangely, you never actually become the Champion yourself. While you earn a place in the Hall of Fame and recognition for your accomplishments, someone else – like Lance, Cynthia, or Steven Stone – always remains in the top spot. We’ve seen Champions get defeated and replaced before – with characters like Blue, Wallace, and Iris – so why don’t we, as the player, get the chance to stay Champion?
Imagine starting a Pokémon game after becoming the Champion! Instead of embarking on a new adventure, you take on the role of defending your title. Rather than traveling to battle others, the region’s strongest Trainers come to you, and you must keep winning to maintain your position as the ultimate Pokémon master.
This idea has a lot of potential for a Pokémon roguelike game. You’d train your Pokémon between battles to keep them strong, and also experience the ups and downs of being a prominent figure in the Pokémon League through unexpected events.
3. Perform Real PokéDex Research
Someone’s Writing These Weird Entries
In the Pokémon games and animated series, when you encounter a new Pokémon, your PokéDex provides a short description of its behavior or physical traits. This raises a question: who is writing these entries? While we, as players, are meant to be researching the Pokémon, it seems like someone has already completed the work!
Imagine being able to create a truly detailed PokéDex by studying Pokémon in the wild, without needing to battle or catch them. You could observe their behaviors and how they interact with each other, then carefully document everything – almost like a blend of the Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Legends: Arceus games.
Beyond just studying wild Pokémon, it would be great to observe Pokémon living with people, and talk to Trainers about what it’s like to live with their Pokémon. If we want to truly understand how humans and Pokémon coexist, we need to look beyond just their behavior in the wild.
2. Survive As A Pokémon In The Wild
No Talking, Just Living
As far as I can remember, no Pokémon game has ever let you actually play as a Pokémon. Not like in the Mystery Dungeon series, where you’re a human in a Pokémon’s body within a Pokémon-like world. I’m talking about truly being a Pokémon, living in the wild, evolving naturally, and fighting to survive by finding food and territory – a real Pokémon survival experience.
Imagine starting as a small, vulnerable wild Pokémon, like a Pidgey or Weedle. Your goal would be to survive by battling other Pokémon for food, building a safe nest, and forming groups with Pokémon of your own kind. You’d need to learn to get along with similar Pokémon and defend your territory from outsiders, all while growing stronger.
To make things more interesting, you might occasionally have a Trainer wander onto your territory, causing problems with their Pokémon. They could even capture some of your Pokémon, reducing your group size and available resources. A particularly troublesome Trainer could also release Pokémon with clashing types nearby, leading to big battles between wild Pokémon.
1. Grow Up With My Pokémon Partner
To Be Loved Is To Be Changed
Growing up with Pokémon, I think a lot of us dreamed of actually having a Pokémon friend – I’d pick Squirtle, for sure! Honestly, becoming a Pokémon Master isn’t the biggest deal to me. I just want a simple life where I can hang out and bond with my Pokémon. It’s always struck me as odd that in the games, not everyone battles, but that’s all we ever seem to do with our Pokémon companions. Wouldn’t it be great to just… live with them?
Imagine a cozy life simulator, similar to Stardew Valley, but set in the world of Pokémon! We’d love a game where you get a small piece of land in a quiet, rural area – think a place like Pallet Town – to build a life. You’d explore the surrounding area with your Pokémon partner and get to know the locals, both people and the wild Pokémon who live nearby. It wouldn’t just be about catching Pokémon, but actually building real relationships with them.
What I cherish most is the idea of growing old with my partner, and that includes our Pokémon. It’s rare to see older Pokémon, and while it’s a little bittersweet to imagine them aging, I think it would be incredibly sweet – like seeing an old dog with gray around its muzzle. To spend a lifetime with a Pokémon, watching it evolve from a Squirtle to a Wartortle and finally a Blastoise, and even though it might not be able to use powerful moves anymore, still seeing that familiar, knowing look on its face… that would be truly special.
