The Elder Scrolls 6 “Still a Long Way Off”, Says Todd Howard

Todd Howard, the director of The Elder Scrolls 6 and head of Bethesda Game Studios, has announced that the game won’t be released in the near future.

I just read an interview with Howard in GQ, and he said that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still quite a ways from being released. It doesn’t have a subtitle like Morrowind or Skyrim yet, but he did say it’s what Bethesda is working on every day, which is good to hear! It’s not coming tomorrow, but it’s definitely in development.

Howard envisions the ideal launch for The Elder Scrolls 6 as a surprise – a significant wait followed by the game simply appearing one day. He described the sudden release of the Oblivion remaster as a successful “test run” of this approach, suggesting The Elder Scrolls 6 might also be released with no prior announcement or hype.

Howard has previously discussed expectations for The Elder Scrolls 6. Last September, he suggested the game would release in 2026 at the earliest, and likely wouldn’t be available on PlayStation 5. However, Xbox’s recent shift towards releasing games on multiple platforms could have changed those plans.

The most recent update about The Elder Scrolls 6 came in February when Bethesda announced a charity auction where the winner could design a character to be included in the game. As of now, we still have no information about the game’s setting or storyline.

Just to refresh your memory, The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced way back in 2018. That was before Microsoft even bought Bethesda and ZeniMax.

The announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6 came with a short trailer featuring only the game’s logo and a glimpse of a countryside fantasy setting. Currently, that’s all we know about the game’s visual style and where it will take place, even for this eagerly awaited RPG.

We’ll have to wait and see if any new information about The Elder Scrolls 6 is released soon, or even within the next year. Keep checking back for updates.
