As a longtime World of Warcraft fan, I’ve always known it’s a PC-only game, and it’s a bit frustrating when you look at other big MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV and Elder Scrolls Online, which you can play on PlayStation and Xbox too. It sounds like, according to the creators, WoW will stay that way for the foreseeable future, which is a little disappointing if I’m honest.
WoW remains PC-only
There’s been a lot of talk for a long time about whether World of Warcraft might come to consoles, and the release of the new Midnight expansion is probably getting some players excited about that possibility. Unfortunately, according to the game’s director, Ion Hazzikostas, a console version isn’t happening.
The game’s developer recently discussed design changes for Midnight on the Unshackled Fury podcast. When asked if the focus on visual clarity and accessibility meant a console release was planned, Hazzikostas stated plainly, “No.”
We want to be upfront: we’re not currently working on bringing World of Warcraft to consoles or other platforms. If we were, we’d tell you! We’d acknowledge it would be a lot of work, but that it’s something we’re aiming for. For now, our priority is the game as it exists on PC.

This is a reasonable point. Keeping a console version of World of Warcraft secret wouldn’t make sense if they were actually working on it. However, if Blizzard intends to announce it with a lot of fanfare later, they certainly wouldn’t confirm it in a casual interview. Still, Hazzikostas’ comments were likely disappointing for players hoping for a console release.
