YouTuber Swegta recently shared a trailer and detailed look at their project, Bully Online. It’s a multiplayer take on the popular 2006 game Bully from Rockstar Games. Swegta plans to start early access in December, giving priority to supporters on their YouTube channel and through their Ko-fi donations page. The announcement includes a quick 2-minute trailer highlighting the game’s features, followed by a 6-minute explanation of the project from Swegta themselves.
Fan-project finally brings online multiplayer to a Rockstar Games classic
Developed by Rockstar Games—the creators of popular titles like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption—Bully is a 2006 game set at Bullworth Academy, a boarding school that also serves as a place for troubled teens to turn their lives around. This creates a distinctive and interesting environment. Interestingly, the game was released as Canis Canem Edit in Europe. When it first came out, Bully didn’t have multiplayer options, but that’s about to change with a new update.
Swegta announced on social media that BULLY ONLINE is finally becoming a reality after years of work! The game will feature minigames, roleplaying, and a free-roam world, all created by fans for other fans. While some people are excited to play, many worry that Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar’s parent company) might try to shut it down with a legal notice. This is a valid concern, but because Swegta isn’t directly charging players to access the game, it may be able to avoid legal issues for the time being.
If you’d like to try out this project, Swegta explains how to get early access in the announcement video. Early access is planned for December. You can get in by donating to support development on Ko-fi, or by joining Swegta’s YouTube channel membership. Swegta hasn’t said when it will be available to everyone yet, as the timeline depends on how much support the project receives.
The upcoming online version of Bully will feature a variety of fun mini-games to play with friends, including shopping cart races and a rat-themed first-person shooter. Like other Rockstar games such as Grand Theft Auto, Bully offers a classic open-world experience where players can freely explore and create their own adventures. This online version seems like a fantastic way to keep the spirit of the original Bully alive, especially with no sequel currently in development.
