GameStop Declares The Console Wars Officially Over With Halo On PS5

After the news that Halo: Combat Evolved is being released on PlayStation 5, in addition to Xbox Series X|S and PC, GameStop has announced it’s taking a neutral stance and declaring an end to the long-running competition between gaming consoles.

GameStop jokingly declared the end of the long-running rivalry between gaming consoles, often called “The Console Wars.” They trace the beginning of this competition back to 2001, when the game Halo: Combat Evolved was released exclusively for the Xbox. With Microsoft now planning to release a remastered version, Halo: Campaign Evolved, on PlayStation 5 in 2026, GameStop is playfully announcing that the “wars” are finally over.

GameStop has announced that all exclusive deals are now over. They’re asking fans who have been fiercely loyal to specific consoles to put aside their rivalries and enjoy the fact that games are becoming more widely available.

Xbox has shared some of its other popular franchises like Gears of War and Forza Horizon 5 with PlayStation in the past, but Halo has always been one of Xbox’s most important and defining series. Now, Halo will also be available on PlayStation going forward.

Matt Booty, an executive at Xbox, recently shared that Xbox is open to releasing its games on competitor consoles like PlayStation, focusing on reaching players wherever they are. This approach has already proven successful, with games that were once exclusive to Xbox selling well on PlayStation.
