The Supergirl film produced by DCU is inspired by one of the top comic books from the last five years, but note that it won’t be a direct translation – particularly with regards to the antagonist.
Milly Alcock first appeared as Kara, Kal-El’s Kryptonian relative, in the final scenes of Superman. In simpler terms, she entered the series playing this role. According to Gunn, she portrays a character who is disorganized and has faced challenging circumstances in life (it’s not like she lived on a tranquil farm with her mom and dad).
As a gaming enthusiast diving into the world of cinematic adventures, I’m all geared up to unveil my excitement over the upcoming DC flick, directed by the talented Craig Gillespie. This movie promises to bring Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow comic series to life on the big screen. In this epic tale, Supergirl embarks on an interstellar journey alongside a young girl, with their mission shrouded in vengeance-seeking quests. Stepping into spoiler territory is best avoided for now, but suffice it to say, buckle up for an unforgettable cosmic odyssey!
As a fellow enthusiast, if you’re curious to delve deeper into the backstory of the film’s villain, feel free to continue. Be advised, there might be some mild spoilers on the horizon…
Supergirl rumored to change Krem from Woman of Tomorrow
It’s been confirmed that Matthias Schoenaerts will play Krem of the Yellow Hills, the primary antagonist in Supergirl. If the movie adheres to the comic, his character will share a deep bond with the young girl Supergirl encounters, and they’ll both have a significant interest in their “deadly pursuit for revenge,” as stated in the plot summary.
Based on information from an insider, Daniel Richtman, it seems that the character Krem in the upcoming Supergirl movie might differ from his comic book counterpart, particularly for those who have read ‘Woman of Tomorrow’. According to Richtman’s post on X/Twitter, “In the Supergirl film, Krem will take on a different form compared to his appearance in the comics.
“He looks more like a monster and carries dead alien rats with him to eat.”
In a more natural and easier-to-understand paraphrase, Bilquis Evely’s depictions of Krem are surprisingly not monstrous. Instead, Krem is portrayed as having red beard and muscular physique, frequently without a shirt, and despite hailing from a world that revolves around a red star, he appears very human-like in appearance.
Such a shift might take us by surprise, as some viewers have noted. The characterization of a creature transporting deceased extraterrestrial rodents bears a striking resemblance to the alien that our beloved character Peacemaker came across within the Quantum Unfolding Chamber during Season 2.
One user commented, recalling a certain character from ‘Peacemaker’ who always ignored Chris’ greetings, ‘Seems similar.’ Another user humorously agreed, adding, ‘Indeed, that appears to be the scene they’re setting!'”
“A Reddit user mentioned a character in ‘Peacemaker’ who never returned Chris’ hello, saying it was reminiscent. Another user chimed in, laughing and confirming, ‘Yes, it looks like they’re laying the foundation for that!’
Among the fanbase, there appears to be agreement that Krem’s comic appearance is quite simple, suggesting that giving him more unique traits could enhance his character.
1. “Despite being a ‘realistic, grounded type of mercenary with a violent and opportunistic nature,’ he seems quite ordinary.”
2. “It’s wonderful if the new version is scarier because the original comic version was not very intimidating.”
A viewer mentioned that they enjoyed ‘Woman of Tomorrow,’ but found the character Krem underdeveloped, describing him as merely an unsavory individual without much depth. They suggested that the movie could have made him more peculiar to add complexity to his character.
