Following a complicated storyline about how Sherlock Holmes reappeared in the latest episode of
The actor recently told TV Insider he truly thinks Sherlock Holmes is still alive. This directly contradicts popular online theories suggesting Holmes was a hallucination created by Watson to deal with past trauma.
Although Carlyle claimed he personally thought Holmes was still alive, his answer was vague. He said, “As far as I’m concerned, he’s very much alive. The idea of him being dead is itself a mystery, something for the audience to ponder.”
His explanation probably won’t stop the conspiracy theories spreading online. Even though he said he didn’t cheat, his words still sound unclear. Telling people they still need to solve the mystery after he appeared to give a clear answer will likely upset fans who are looking for a definite resolution.
Carlyle hinted that Watson is just as bewildered as the viewers are. He explained that the character likely doesn’t believe what’s happening when he discovers Holmes is still alive.
It’s unclear why he would trust this person, and I’m not even sure if he does. By the end of the second episode, the question of trust remains unanswered. Watson is still very cautious and suspicious of what’s happening and who this person really is. It leaves you wondering what’s going on and whether this person is genuine. Ultimately, both the character and the audience are left questioning his sincerity.
The show Watson features a modern take on the classic character Dr. John Watson, originally created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the Sherlock Holmes stories. Instead of solving crimes, this version of Watson applies his skills to unraveling medical puzzles.
New episodes of Watson are released every Monday at 10:00 PM ET and 7:00 PM PT on CBS.
