PlayStation Store users are beginning to see a new feature that helps them track game prices. When a game is on sale, the store now displays its lowest price from the past 30 days, letting you quickly see if you’re getting a genuinely good deal or if it might be worth waiting for a further discount. Right now, this price history is only visible on the PlayStation console itself, and only for games that are currently discounted. It doesn’t seem to be available on the PlayStation Store website or mobile app yet. PlayStation didn’t officially announce this addition, which makes you wonder why they decided to add it now.
The PS Store has a good new feature for customers, but why now?
While there were already ways to check prices elsewhere, it wasn’t always simple, especially for players who don’t regularly track these things. This new feature is really helpful because it protects customers from being misled. Some sellers used to artificially inflate prices, then advertise a big discount to make it seem like a deal, when in reality, you weren’t saving much. This tactic worked because people acted quickly on what looked like a good offer. By adding this price visibility to the PlayStation Store, it makes it harder for sellers to get away with this kind of trick.
You’ll find the details right below the game’s star rating and above the current sale price. For many popular games, the current discount is the lowest it’s been in the past month, suggesting these are genuine deals and the price probably won’t drop further anytime soon.
What’s the reason behind this change? Is PlayStation simply being helpful to customers? Not really. While this update happened without a big announcement, don’t assume it’s a sign of the company doing the right thing out of kindness. This feature has actually been legally required throughout much of Europe for several years. It’s far more probable that PlayStation and Sony are proactively complying with these regulations, rather than acting out of generosity.
It’s possible this change simply looks like a response to recent criticism. PlayStation might actually be trying to do right by its customers. However, considering they’re currently being sued in several countries for charging too much for games, it’s hard to assume that’s their only motivation.
