Wait, Why Is Donald Trump Beefing with The View?

Currently, President Donald Trump is expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of television, a sentiment that appears to be reciprocated. Notably, funding for NPR and PBS was reduced by Trump, and Stephen Colbert’s show was cancelled following his comments regarding a $16 million settlement between Paramount and Trump, which he described as a bribe. In a humorous twist, the animated series South Park depicted CBS cancelling Colbert’s show and portrayed Trump with a small penis. As for what might happen next, it seems that a potential conflict with a morning talk show is on the horizon. Trump’s ongoing feud with The View, dating back nearly 20 years to Rosie O’Donnell, has been reignited this week following comments made by Joy Behar about Trump and his administration.

What did Joy Behar say on air?

On July 23, during the Hot Topics segment, Behar criticized the current President for his accusations against President Barack Obama, claiming he was “guilty of treason.” During the broadcast, she questioned, “Who was it who attempted to overthrow the government on January 6th? Let’s remember.” She further commented that the President is envious of Obama because Obama embodies qualities that the President lacks: fitness, intelligence, good looks, a happy marriage, and a better singing voice for Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” than even Al Green himself.

How did the White House respond?

The Trump administration didn’t mince words. In a statement to Entertainment Weekly on July 23, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers labeled Behar as a “forgotten failure struggling with severe Trump Criticism Syndrome.” Additionally, Rogers asserted that The View’s ratings plummeted to an unprecedented low last year; however, The View countered by revealing that for the fifth consecutive season, it ranks number one in households and total viewers among all network daytime talk shows and news programs.

When Fox News inquired about The View on July 24th, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr did not refute the notion that it might be under scrutiny by the administration. He added, “It’s conceivable that there are problems over there. And more broadly, since President Trump has unmasked these media gatekeepers and demolished this illusion, there are several consequences. I believe the repercussions of that haven’t fully played out yet.

Is the show actually going on hiatus?

Indeed, yes, but it’s important to clarify that this isn’t due to Trump. On July 24th, Behar announced that after its recent episode, the show is set to take a break during summer, as per its usual schedule. This routine pause has been a part of the show for years and is not related to Trump; instead, the show will resume in September, as confirmed by Whoopi Goldberg.
