Following Ironmouse’s criticism towards VShojo for not fulfilling a promised $500k charity donation, other VTubers employed by the agency began speaking up about unpaid monthly remunerations they had been owed for some time.
After the revelation broke, I found myself among many others who decided to part ways with VShojo within just a day. The speed at which this organization crumbled was astonishing.
Previously serving as CEO, Justin Ignacio admitted that the company had exhausted its financial resources for paying its employees several months back. Regrettably, they were unable to secure sufficient funds to rectify the situation, which has led to the decision of closing down the company completely.
VShojo shuts down after talent went unpaid for months
As a gamer putting it in my own words, “I’m the one who’s shouldering the blame for VShojo’s current state. I admit that I’ve made mistakes in managing our team, and these errors have led us to where we are now.” He’s owning up to his role in the mismanagement of our talent and is sharing the sequence of events that brought about this situation.
For several years now, we’ve managed to gather roughly $11 million with the aim of embracing a daring, creator-focused strategy in the field of Tubing. This approach prioritizes nurturing talent and fostering community over immediate financial gains, with the ultimate objective of ensuring long-term viability.
We channeled our resources directly to our creators via beneficial splits, initial investments, infrastructure development, performances, events, and staffing, all aimed at assisting them. We also believed in giving talent ownership of their intellectual property, a distinctive creator-centric strategy for an agency. Regrettably, the business didn’t produce enough income to keep our model alive, and ultimately, we exhausted our funds.
I’ll rephrase that statement from a fan’s perspective: “He openly acknowledged that the funds used were earnings stemming from his talents. Essentially, it seemed like the company was tapping directly into what should have been my income, using it to maintain their operations.
A portion of our company’s spending was linked to talent-related activities, which I later discovered was earmarked for a charitable cause. At that point, we were striving to gather more investment capital to meet our costs. I had faith, given the information at hand, that we would secure additional funds and manage all expenses. Regrettably, our fundraising attempts proved unsuccessful.
Despite closing the company, there’s no indication of a plan to repay employees or fulfill the promise of donating $500k to the Immune Deficiency Foundation.
Yet, due to Ironmouse’s enthusiastic supporters, they have successfully managed to donate more than a million dollars to the IDF following this announcement.
