By the time he turned 24, Seth Green had already amassed over 30 roles on TV and film, but Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont’s script for “Can’t Hardly Wait” stood out to him. “I read it,” he said, “and knew that Kenny Fisher could be a breakout character if I put in the effort. He’s such an intriguing character because of his deep insecurity. It was a role I really coveted, and when I landed it, I thought, I’m going to knock this part out of the park.” True to his word, the movie, which starred Green alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt, Lauren Ambrose, and Ethan Embry, left a lasting impact when it premiered in 1998. It earned $25 million at the box office and has been a beloved teen classic ever since.

Following the airing of his “Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special,” Green graced us with a visit on our series “Role Call” to reminisce about portraying Kenny, a socially awkward high school student deeply into hip hop culture who embarks on a fervent journey to lose his virginity. Though the character had minimal screen time, he has endeared himself to fans; the lasting impression of the film is Green in baggy jeans and surprisingly, ski goggles. “I told the costume designer, ‘This kid had to make these choices realistically. He picked these pants, he picked these shoes,'” Green recalls. “He spent hours, days, years contemplating this moment: Tonight is the night I’m going to have sex.
