The Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy expansion for the three-decade-old card game remains extremely popular, as evidenced by its sell-out status at most local and large retailers. During a Q2 2025 investor call by Hasbro, it was disclosed that this set has broken records to become the best-selling set in the game’s history, achieving this milestone in just one day.
During a recent call, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks disclosed that the collaboration between Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy sold an astounding $200 million worth of products in just a single day. To give you some perspective, the previous Magic: The Gathering partnership set, 2023’s The Lord Of The Rings, took six months to hit the $200 million mark. Cocks added that, surprisingly, the set could have earned even more on its debut day, as Hasbro decided to hold back some demand.
In his words, “We failed to meet demand,” Cocks admitted. “Before launching it, we quadrupled the production runs. It was significantly, by a large margin, our greatest production effort yet, exceeding all previous productions. Despite this, there was still a high demand in the market that wasn’t fully met.
As a die-hard gamer, I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news for those of us who are yet to get our hands on the elusive Final Fantasy cards! Despite being temporarily out of stock, Hasbro has confirmed that they’re keeping the production lines rolling. In the words of their Chief Financial Officer, Gina Goetter, “We’re still cranking out this set!” She believes that the popularity of this set will persist, hinting at a long and prosperous future for these cards, which she affectionately referred to as having a “huge long tail.” So, keep your eyes peeled, fellow gamers! We might just see those Final Fantasy cards on shelves soon.
As Final Fantasy is getting restocked, the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set with a space-opera theme, Edge of Eternities, is almost here and will be launched on August 1. Following this, the Marvel’s Spider-Man expansion releases on September 12. Lastly, an Avatar: The Last Airbender set will conclude the year on November 21.
