The Sandman Season 2 Volume 2 Delivers An Epic Ending, But I Will Really Miss This Series (Review)

Fans bidding farewell to the nearly flawless Netflix series, The Sandman, can savor their goodbyes over two volumes in its final season. Volume 1 laid the groundwork for an extraordinary conclusion, and volume 2 certainly delivered. Fortunately, there’s still a bit more to look forward to, as Netflix will release one additional episode for The Sandman Season 2. For now, audiences can find comfort in the fact that the first 10 episodes were excellently executed, even if the story had to be compressed due to unavoidable circumstances.

Without much surprise, The Sandman Season 2, Volume 2 continues right from where the first volume ended. With Dream’s life at stake and a new successor declared for his realm, he appears to have lost all will to live. At moments, it is distressing to observe as he seems unwilling to resist, yet viewers can empathize with his exhaustion after living for so long.

In the latter half of Season 2 of “The Sandman,” the narrative primarily explores the surroundings of Dream and hints at his impending demise. This storyline is easily grasped by viewers who may not be familiar with the source material (the acclaimed DC Comics series), as the plot progression becomes evident.

In the last five episodes, characters Loki (played by Freddie Fox) and Puck (portrayed by Jack Gleeson) play crucial roles. While I won’t reveal too much to avoid spoilers, let me tell you that their contributions in volume two are a mix of trickery, darkness, and seductive charm.

The Story Is Not Rushed, but It Could Have Been Explored More

When Netflix declared that The Sandman Season 2 would mark the series’ conclusion, I realized we were in for some unfulfilled storylines. Although the show skillfully allocated ample time for each character and covered all crucial plot points, extending it with another season or two could have only improved the experience.

In the captivating, complex, and bustling universe conceived by Neil Gaiman (learn about how Marvel Studios turned down one of his ideas), there is much to delve into. While I wouldn’t go so far as to say this final season felt hurried, it could have benefited from a little more room to develop, as the intricate threads of its storylines might have added depth and richness to what we experienced. Regrettably, the showrunners were compelled to trim things down due to circumstances beyond their power.

If you haven’t checked out the comics yet, I highly suggest giving them a try! After watching the Netflix series, they’ll provide additional insights and delve deeper into your beloved characters.

Stunning Visuals Right to the Bitter End

One standout aspect of “The Sandman” that consistently impresses is its stunning visuals. Right from the opening scene of the premiere in Season 1, it’s evident that this series boasts a substantial budget. Netflix doesn’t shy away from putting that money to good use, and this commitment to quality is maintained throughout these final episodes.

In Volume 2, some absolutely breathtaking action scenes unfold without a single stumble in the computer-generated effects. Given that these are the concluding episodes, they carry significant emotional weight and moments that might leave fans in tears. Despite their poignancy, these sequences are visually captivating to watch. A series of bittersweet, heartrending, yet beautifully executed scenes unfold throughout.

What Comes Next for The Sandman?

It’s undeniable that the finale of “The Sandman” is saddening for its fans, but at least there’s one more episode on the horizon. In a special bonus episode after Death, viewers can expect to reconnect with Dream’s siblings and discover what transpired since the end of episode eleven.

In the second season of The Sandman, the family dynamics have stood out significantly. Given this, it’s understandable that Netflix intends to offer us additional time with these characters. To avoid spoilers, viewers can look forward to delving deeper into Dream’s family circle in Volume 2. Rest assured, the acting will send shivers down your spine.

Although I wish I could continue watching multiple seasons of this show, it’s not possible for me at this time. Luckily, the comics will provide some comfort while I ponder over the potential storylines that never came to be.

Final Rating: 10/10

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the grand finale of “The Sandman” will unfold in two captivating volumes. Volume 1, consisting of episodes 1-6, is set to debut on July 3, 2025. Just wait until Thursday, July 24, when Volume 2 (episodes 7-11) takes center stage. The series will be available solely on Netflix, so mark your calendars and get ready for a magical journey!
