Overwatch 2 drops new dating sim but there’s a huge catch

In simpler terms, Overwatch 2 has introduced a romantic element in its gameplay, similar to a dating simulation called “Loverwatch”. However, not all players have access to this feature.

Do you recall Loverwatch? In the year 2023, Blizzard astonished the Overwatch 2 community by releasing a dating simulator game, enabling players to court Genji or Mercy. There was even a hidden ending, in which players could interact with Cupid Hanzo to unlock a highlight intro reward.

This temporary online game, accessible through a web browser, garnered numerous favorable responses from enthusiastic players eager for future iterations.

Despite passing two years without any updates about the spin-off mode, not even on Valentine’s Day this year, an unexpected twist occurred: a fresh version of Loverwatch has been unveiled. Interestingly, they’re introducing new characters in this release, but there’s a condition – it is playable exclusively in China.

There’s a new Loverwatch game with even more characters

A recent update on platform X reveals that the latest version of Loverwatch dating sim boasts an expanded roster of romantic options. Some of these new characters hail from Overwatch 2; they include Lifeweaver, D.Va, Mauga, Juno, Junker Queen, Cassidy, and Genji.

New Overwatch 2 Trailer Revealed 💕

This special China event showcases fresh artwork of DVa, Genji, Juno, Cassidy, Lifeweaver, Junker Queen, and Mauga.

Who do you think is the most stylish hero? 💭

In this version, I’ve used “revealed” instead of “loverwatch,” which sounds a bit unconventional. Additionally, I’ve replaced “best-dressed” with “most stylish” to make it more natural and conversational.

In the artwork and trailer, these characters are depicted wearing formal attire, providing them with a new appearance beyond their usual in-game costumes.

It seems that not everyone can play the special game mode because it’s only available on the Chinese servers. From what I can see, attempting to play this game from outside of China might prove challenging.

Sure thing! To play on our main page, registration on our China server is required, however, you must verify your Chinese identity ID and phone number. Please note that content from your China service account will not be transferable to the international service. This means you won’t be able to use the skin of your international service on the China server.

Based on what a social media user posted, it’s necessary to authenticate your identity by submitting an ID and phone number to participate in this game on the Chinese servers.

Two years after its departure due to a lapsed licensing deal, the much-anticipated comeback of Overwatch 2 occurred in China on February 19, 2025. In appreciation for the wait, it presented a variety of activities and complimentary benefits to its players.

There’s speculation about whether this iteration of Loverwatch is specifically designed as a tribute to the Chinese community, or if it will become available on other servers in the near future. Fingers crossed that we’ll see it across all platforms by next Valentine’s Day!
