Overwatch 2’s newest hero trial has the community completely confused

The upcoming Overwatch 2 hero will debut during Season 18, yet it’s the free trial duration for this new character that has left the gaming community puzzled.

Since introducing Mauga, Overwatch has given players the opportunity to try out new heroes ahead of time, using their feedback to fine-tune changes before the official release.

During these trial phases, it’s usually several weeks prior to the main character’s debut with the upcoming season. However, for Wuyang, the developers have sparked a fair amount of surprise and curiosity among many.

On their July 22nd blog update, Overwatch’s development team revealed that the 44th character will offer a complimentary trial period from August 14th to the 18th, which is nearly coincidental with the start of Season 18.

Wuyang’s hero trial baffles Overwatch 2 players

Currently, not much is known about Wuyang except that he will be a Chinese support hero.

In the latest blog post, the developers shed some light on the character’s unique feature – an enhanced damage output, which sets him apart as a more formidable choice compared to the traditional support heroes previously available.

Prepare to encounter Wuyang in Overwatch 2 🌊

This rule-breaking character focuses on rhythm, disruption, and control through flowing means. His healing abilities are fluid, his damage output is hybrid, and he has a knack for swift movement, offering a unique take on the Support role.

They described this unconventional hero from the Water College of Wuxing University as one who embodies rhythm, disruption, and control through flow. His unique abilities include healing that flows seamlessly, damage utility that’s both hybrid, and mobility that gracefully sets him apart from other supports. Prepare for a steep learning curve with this character, but be ready for some impressive impact.

Yet, the trial period for his hero during August 14-18 stirred up some disagreement, particularly since it coincides with the conclusion of Season 17.

A week before the season starts leaves me puzzled… wouldn’t that just ruin the real debut?” was the comment made by someone.

Naturally, they choose to conclude the season at its usual end rather than halfway through. It seems unnecessary since there’s barely a week left for any meaningful feedback to be collected.

What’s the purpose of holding a trial just days before his release, it seems! Looks like I won’t be online for another month.

It’s unclear whether developers intentionally set a short trial period near Season 18 or if they can adapt quickly enough for a smooth support release. For now, players are left with more queries than solutions.

Let’s wait until August 14th to determine whether Wuyang truly lives up to the exceptional hero status that developers of Overwatch 2 have portrayed him as.
