Vi confirmed for 2XKO along with a release date – but there’s a huge catch

Back in 2019, when League of Legends announced its new fighting game, it seemed almost certain that Vi would be part of the team. Interestingly, her introduction to the game also provided us with the most recent update about the potential release date for 2XKO – something we hadn’t heard much about in a while.

2XKO’s evolution from Project L to its current form has been a source of frustration for many fighting game enthusiasts, as it took almost a decade to finally bring this game to market. Initially, the developers anticipated that only 10 characters would be included in the full launch, which is significantly smaller compared to League of Legends’ roster of 171 characters.

With the addition of Vi, bringing the team count to 8, they’ve decided to modify their strategy and release the game as swiftly as they can.

By 2025, people can look forward to enjoying more than just a typical weekend with the release of 2XKO, but it’s important to note that there are significant conditions attached. Mark your calendars for its official launch on September 9th… well, almost!

Vi confirmed alongside closed beta release date

Announcement has been made for an exclusive closed beta testing phase of 2XKO, which commences on September 9. This isn’t a weekend beta test; rather, it serves as a prelude to the official game launch, with minimal limitations on server availability beyond routine maintenance.

Absolutely! Though the game doesn’t launch as a full version 1.0 yet, this is the initial time it will be accessible to the public for an extended stretch. Riot intends to maintain the servers running continuously from now on.

Only invited users will have access to the closed beta. This includes members from Alpha Lab 1 and 2, along with some extra players. Initially, the game can only be played on PC, but console compatibility will be introduced later on.

Along with that beta date, we also got the full reveal for Vi.

Riot Games has announced Vi as 2XKO’s newest champion

She’s a swift character with a rushdown playstyle that strongly resembles Terry Bogard’s movements in this year’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Players who have controlled him will find it relatively simple to make comparisons, although it’s important to note that Vi moves significantly faster than Terry does.

Although there’s still a chance that the final 1.0 version of 2XKO may consist of 10 characters, this beta version is going to be the initial public release that lasts for an extended duration, and it will only provide 8 characters to choose from initially. Given that it’s a tag-fighting game, expect frequent encounters with the same champions during this early phase.

No matter what, those eagerly anticipating the release of 2XKO will undoubtedly find joy in playing it, following years of patient waiting. However, only if they manage to secure access to the closed beta test.
