In the forthcoming Battlefield, often called Battlefield 6, they stirred up some debate by allowing all classes to utilize any weapon, and they’ve remained firm on this decision in response to criticism. Yet, the developers have now announced that the open beta will test both systems to give the community a chance to decide which one they prefer.
Prior to Battlefield 2042, weapons were exclusively tied to character classes. For instance, submachine guns were exclusive to the Engineer class. This setup encouraged a “rock-paper-scissors” strategy, as each class had a specific function and a corresponding weapon to fulfill it.
In March, DICE unveiled a plan to allow any class to wield any weapon in the upcoming Battlefield, which didn’t sit well with long-term enthusiasts. Sticking to their decision in early July, they shared an update on July 21st.
Battlefield 6 beta tests class-locked weapon playlist
I’m all for exploring the dynamics of Open and Closed weapons! Starting from our upcoming open beta, you’ll have the freedom to pick your preferred gameplay lists. If you like sticking to a specific weapon type based on your character class, go for it! But if you prefer an unrestricted arsenal, that option is there too!” – DICE on X/Twitter
As an enthusiast, I’m always curious about the differences: Open vs Closed Arsenals!
Why limit ourselves?
From the onset of the Open Beta, players will have the freedom to select from official game modes featuring Signature Weapons exclusively assigned to each class, or opt for a more open-ended experience.
Stay tuned for further updates!

Indeed, it’s been confirmed that Battlefield 6 undeniably includes an open beta, offering players a unique experience. There are two main gameplay options, or playlists, available. One adheres to the conventional setup, while the other offers a more dynamic approach, allowing any class to utilize any weapon.
Kevin ‘T0TALfps’ Johnson, Battlefield’s Global Community Manager, emphasized that when they expressed their desire to collaborate with the community on various matters and take it a step further, they truly meant it. He explained that the responsibility isn’t one-sided; instead, it’s something shared among all parties, and everyone should actively engage in communication. He hopes this open dialogue will persist.
When we expressed our intention to collaborate with the community on various matters and take it a step further, we truly meant every word.
In this endeavor, the ball isn’t in one team’s court; rather, it’s shared among us all and passed back and forth. It’s beneficial for everyone involved to listen, engage, and communicate as best we can.
Here’s to a continued spirit of cooperation!

The news received overwhelming acclaim, as responses and retweets flooded with “W” expressions and appreciation messages. One participant commented, “Excellent concept indeed! Given it’s a BETA, the optimal setting for testing on such a large scale. Huge Win!
On Reddit, the general reaction was quite similar, with some people thinking that the pre-announcement could imply that the beta version might be approaching soon.
Certainly, This announcement doesn’t guarantee the return of the old system, though. Instead, let’s be patient and observe the results from the open beta testing.
We’ll learn more details about Battlefield 6 during its official unveiling, set for some time within the summer season.
