Lo and behold! Second Dinner has formally unveiled the Marvel Snap: Golden Gauntlet World Championship Series, a global tournament initiative commencing on August 9, 2025. This free-for-all competition welcomes participants of all skill levels and backgrounds, with the ultimate goal of fostering unity within the gaming community and displaying the innovative talents of its players. The series will be streamed live on the game’s official Twitch and YouTube platforms.
Before every event, registration details together with the complete rules, structure, and assistance will be distributed through our official Discord server, where specific channels have been set up for this purpose.
The Golden Gauntlet Series features three preliminary regional tournaments, culminating in the grand finale event known as the Golden Gauntlet Worlds in November. Each regional tournament employs a consistent structure: six rounds of Swiss-style matches (fixed number of rounds with pairings determined by performance rather than elimination), followed by an 16-player single-elimination bracket. Rewards are given to the highest-ranking competitors at the end of each event.
Following this, individuals who conclude these rounds with a minimum of 5 wins and only 1 loss will secure a place in the concluding competition. These preliminary stages are planned for August, September, and October, each catering to distinct global areas, aiming to accommodate as numerous participants as feasible.
At Second Dinner, Aland Failde, their SVP of Marketing, underscores that this tournament serves as a means to express gratitude towards fans and creators whose contributions have significantly impacted the game’s developmental path.
Since the beginning, Marvel Snap has been molded by its players, and the Golden Gauntlet is our method of fostering and boosting that enthusiasm. Failde made this clear in a statement, expressing gratitude to Game On Events for assisting us with the event’s organization, and to all the amazing community members who’ve contributed to its creation—this series wouldn’t be here without their unwavering dedication, inventiveness, and affection for the game.
Players might recall an instance when Snap temporarily shut down last January, following the enactment of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA). This law targeted software belonging or distributed by ByteDance, the game’s former publisher Nuverse’s parent company. Consequently, certain restrictions were imposed, but they were later lifted. The developers then declared their intention to collaborate with US-based Skystone Games to handle publishing responsibilities in the future.
In a similar vein, Matthew R., often recognized by his Gamertag ItsGuestGaming, one of the co-founders of Game On Events, emphasized the developmental journey of the tournament, transforming from humble beginnings as grassroots initiatives to a globally recognized world championship.
The purpose of this series is to unite our community and appreciate the competitive Marvel Snap gaming scene. At the same time, it showcases the quick, intense matches these games are known for. It’s been an incredible journey witnessing tournaments evolve from local events to the Golden Gauntlet World Championship Series. Whether you’ve been playing for a short while or a longer period, we’re delighted to organize a tournament that acknowledges Marvel Snap’s dedicated community.
The climactic event, Golden Gauntlet Worlds, is scheduled for November 8, 2025. Over 300 players who have qualified from three different tournaments will participate. Throughout nine rounds of Swiss-style competition, this grand event will reach its peak with a Top 16 playoff to crown the ultimate champion.
Currently, no cards have been banned, but given past precedents such as High Voltage, it’s not unimaginable that certain powerful cards like Galactus and Magik could be banned to expedite adjustments in the game.
A week from now, once all the Fantastic Four: First Steps cards have landed, I’ll find myself with a bit of breathing room to reassess my winning deck. Maybe there’s a card or two that could make it even stronger!
