2K Sports Reportedly Planning College Hoops Standalone Game, Not Tied To NBA 2K

It seems increasingly probable that EA may not be the sole entity resurrecting college basketball into video games, as according to recent reports, 2K Sports is reportedly reaching out to universities with an aim to incorporate them in their upcoming game. Interestingly, this game will stand independently from the renowned NBA 2K franchise.

According to reports from Sports Business Journal, 2K Sports is said to have reached out to Michigan State, Houston, and UCLA about participating in the return of College Hoops 2K. The game aims to include around 100 teams, with female teams also represented. Previous news suggested that 2K was considering downloadable content for the NBA 2K series featuring college basketball, and if successful, they might consider a separate standalone release.

Towards the beginning of this current month, the authentic NBA 2K account on platform X hinted at the development of a college basketball game. This suggestion followed shortly after Electronic Arts (EA) publicly declared a new college basketball game, but so far, a release date remains undisclosed.

16 years have passed since a college basketball video game was released. The most recent game in this series was College Hoops 2K8, which came out in 2007, and NCAA Basketball 10, the last installment from EA, was released in 2009.

Last year, EA Sports College Football 25 ranked as the second highest-selling video game in the U.S., demonstrating significant achievement for EA in its reintroduction to college football. More recently, they released EA Sports College Football 26 earlier this month.
