There Are Plans For Switch 2 Edition Of Warframe, But One Big Issue Is Holding It Up

Digital Extremes, the creators of Warframe, are eagerly looking forward to designing a version of the game for Switch 2, yet they can’t do so at the moment without the necessary development kits. Unfortunately, these kits are currently in high demand, and the studio hasn’t received any as of now, due to a queue or backlog for the devices.

In conversation with Eurogamer, Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair expressed their team’s aspiration to develop Warframe for a potential Switch 2 version. “Our technical team is eager to leverage the high-speed cores and unique features of the [Switch 2], but unfortunately, there’s an extensive waitlist for development kits,” Sinclair explained.

Sinclair mentioned that definite plans are in place for Warframe on Nintendo Switch 2, and this version will be a tailored edition of the multiplayer action-RPG. The game is now playable on Nintendo’s latest hybrid console due to backward compatibility. Although it debuted in 2013, Warframe was made accessible on the Switch at the end of 2018.

Last week’s report suggests that the scarcity of Nintendo Switch 2 development kits has been hindering the announcement of third-party games for the console. It appears that not only smaller studios but also larger companies such as Capcom and Sega are yet to receive adequate access to these devices.

After more than ten years, Warframe remains among the top 25 exceptional free games to enjoy. Notably, it was ranked as one of the top 10 gaming franchises in the previous year by TopMob’s parent company, TopMob. Furthermore, the developers at Digital Extremes are currently developing Soulframe, an upcoming free-to-play, expansive multiplayer RPG set in a fantasy universe.
