In a recent interview, he discussed long-term plans for the franchise, hinting at potential reboots following Avengers: Secret Wars. He also emphasized the importance of integrating the X-Men into the MCU, which he believes will be a pivotal moment for fresh talent stepping into classic roles.

At Marvel Studios’ Burbank headquarters, Kevin Feige clarified they will eventually replace iconic characters such as Iron Man and Captain America with new actors. He noted that the X-Men franchise would be the setting for these recastings, according to Deadline.

Feige elaborated on the upcoming direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Avengers: Secret Wars, revealing Marvel’s plans to “refresh individual timelines” and essentially revamp the universe. This overhaul would create opportunities for fresh portrayals of classic characters. He mentioned that this strategy mirrors other prominent film series, which have occasionally brought in new actors to reprise iconic roles throughout the years.

Feige disclosed that he had a conversation with Robert Downey Jr. about assuming the role of Doctor Doom instead of Ant-Man 3’s release. In his own words, “I had already initiated discussions with Robert regarding this daring concept before Ant-Man 3 hit the screens.” Now, it’s confirmed that Downey Jr. will take on the emblematic villain in Avengers: Doomsday, replacing Kang the Conqueror as the main adversary.

Kevin Feige emphasized that Marvel is shifting its approach towards quality rather than volume in future projects. He stated, “From 2007 to 2019, we created approximately 50 hours of stories. However, since ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ which was six years ago, we’ve generated more than 100 hours of content – that’s too much.” Consequently, Marvel plans to release one to three films each year, with a decrease in Disney+ content as well.
