The developers at Strang Scaffold, known for their humorous titles like Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 and Clickolding, have unveiled their next project. As the name suggests, Co-op Kaiju Horror Cooking is a cooperative game that revolves around preparing meals for colossal monsters. Similar to games such as Lethal Company and Content Warning, players are assigned with gathering ingredients deep within a perilous dungeon to create the ultimate meal. However, what sets this game apart is that instead of venturing into a dangerous dungeon, you’re cooking for the danger itself!
Co-op Kaiju Horror Cooking is exactly what it sounds like, Strange Scaffold makes another strange game
In the trailer, a number of players – ranging from two up to many more – assume the roles of a monastic order. Suddenly, colossal sea monsters, known as kaiju, emerge from the ocean and march towards a castle, making demands for food. By offering the right food to each monster, the players can prevent catastrophic destruction that an upset kaiju could bring about. Each monster has its unique preferences and instructions; however, these are not the only challenges that the players will face.
As a passionate adventurer, I’ll need to delve into treacherous depths, either a menacing dungeon or the larder, to gather the diverse components for each meal. I’ll need to be cautious, as dangerous creatures hide in the shadows, ready to pounce if I’m not vigilant. I can set traps to ensnare these monsters and ensure they don’t catch me off guard. Once I manage to collect the ingredients, I’ll swiftly ascend to the surface to prepare them for consumption.
In a race-against-time scenario, with just ten minutes at my disposal, I’ll cook up the food and launch it towards the yawning maw of the kaiju using a catapult. The thrill of this high-pressure culinary challenge is exhilarating!
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that this is my first foray into a multiplayer game from Strange Scaffold, and it’s already showcasing their unique quirks. Unlike their previous title, Lethal Company, which offers an infinite replayability, Co-op Kaiju Horror Cooking follows a more linear progression. From the Steam page, I learned that it presents “a narrative about wrestling with your beliefs as your leaders start to perish, leaving you to carry on their legacy, unfolding across 13 levels.” So there’s a deeper storyline here than just a perpetual race to please the kaijus.
The free playtest for the game “Co-op Kaiju Horror Cooking” is currently underway on Steam. The game is scheduled to be released in just a few weeks, on July 29th. If you participate in the playtest, you can play the entire game for free and witness the project’s final stages of development live. Even if you can’t join the playtest now, adding “Co-op Kaiju Horror Cooking” to your wishlist is a simple, cost-free way to back these independent developers and their innovative concept. This will be Strange Scaffold’s seventh game in two years, demonstrating that they approach development differently than many other studios.
