Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Will Offer Switch 2 Upgrade Path And Cross-Progression

Sega has provided updates about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this upcoming holiday season, available digitally first. Current Switch owners can look forward to an upgrade option. Following that, in the next year, there will be a physical version of the game on Nintendo’s latest system, featuring the entire base game on a 64GB cartridge.

The game “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” is set to debut on September 25 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Preorders are currently being accepted. This will be the first time the game has been released for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, with Sega confirming that those who pay a $10 upgrade fee for the Switch 2 will be able to carry over their progression. The price of the Switch 2 version of “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” will be $70, matching the prices of PS5 and Xbox Series X, instead of the usual $60 for Nintendo Switch games. Additionally, cross-platform matchmaking has been confirmed for the Switch 2 edition of the game.

The fact that some upcoming Switch 2 games will come as physical cartridges instead of digital keys brings delight to those who prefer this format over game keys. Unlike game keys, these cartridge versions can be shared or resold. Unfortunately, the number of Switch 2 games with full versions on cartridges is still limited, but Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to be among them in the year 2026.

In the game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, it won’t just be Sonic and his friends who are playable characters. You can also choose to play as Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona 5, and even SpongeBob SquarePants! For more details, take a look at TopMob’s Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds preview.
