Nintendo reveals who will play Link and Zelda in the Legend of Zelda live action movie

Today, it’s been revealed who will star in the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda movie. As per a social media post from renowned video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, Bo Bragason has been cast as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. The post includes a picture of the two actors in outfits resembling characters from the series, even though filming hasn’t begun yet. Miyamoto also mentioned that the movie is still scheduled for release on May 7th, 2027, which is slightly later than its initial announcement date of March 26th, but there’s still plenty of time to go.

In the upcoming film, you might recognize two key actors – Bo Bragason, portraying Zelda, is a renowned English actress, particularly known for her roles in the drama series “Renegade Nell” and the thriller series “The Jetty”. On the other hand, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth may be familiar to you from the Netflix series “The Haunting of Bly Manor”, or as the voice behind Disney’s live action “Pinocchio” film released in 2022.

We’re still in the dark about many aspects of the upcoming “Legend of Zelda” adaptation, which isn’t due out for another two years. Will it stick to a specific game like Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild, or will it offer something entirely new? As for what we do have information on, Wes Ball is set to direct the project and has hinted that he’s aiming for a live-action film reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki’s work rather than something like “Lord of the Rings,” despite the New Zealand locations. Ball’s previous directorial credits include “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and “Maze Runner.

With Miyamoto, this “Legend of Zelda” movie will be produced by Avi Arad, who was previously the chief creative officer at Marvel Entertainment. As per a source within the film industry, Nintendo intends to turn the “Legend of Zelda” adaptation into a trilogy, with actors already committed for three movies across six years. Given the success of the “Super Mario Bros. Movie” and its upcoming sequel, Nintendo may be positioning itself to create a film empire.

Upon Miyamoto posting the news on social media, fans couldn’t resist joining the conversation. One participant posted an image featuring Jack Black as Link, highlighting how this well-known actor has taken on a variety of surprising video game characters lately, including Bowser and Minecraft Steve. Another user shared an image depicting Owen Wilson in the role of Link, which seems unconventional, but at least he shares the same hair color.
