It’s been made official that Bo Bragason will take on the role of Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth has been cast as Link in Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda film.
In his social media post, the esteemed game creator Shigeru Miyamoto shared his excitement about the cast for the live-action movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Specifically, he mentioned that Bo Bragason will portray Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link. He can’t wait to witness their performances on the big screen!

It’s Miyamoto speaking, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to reveal that in the upcoming live-action movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, Bo Bragason will grace our screens as the iconic character, Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will embody the brave Link. British actress Bragason made her breakthrough performance in the 2017 TV series “Three Girls,” and she has since appeared in the 2021 horror movie “Censor.” Following these roles, she’s landed additional parts in various TV shows and films. Notably, she lent her voice to a younger version of Luna in “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV,” a computer-animated film released in 2017 that was related to the game “Final Fantasy 15.
Apart from being recognized as a British thespian, Ainsworth has an impressive resume in the acting world. His past roles encompass Miles from The Haunting of Bly Manor, William in Flora & Ulysses (a Disney series), and he lent his voice to Pinocchio in the live-action reboot.
In a collaborative effort, Nintendo and Sony Pictures are joining forces to produce The Legend of Zelda movie. Directing this project is Wes Ball, who previously worked on Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Joining him as producers are Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo and Avi Arad, a veteran in the Marvel universe. While specific details about the film remain scarce, Ball has shared his vision for it to embody the visual style of Studio Ghibli films while maintaining a realistic feel.
He expressed a fantastic concept: ‘I’ve been mulling over it for quite some time now,’ he explained. ‘The thought of creating a cinematic masterpiece based on Zelda has been captivating me… I aspire to meet people’s highest expectations. I’m well aware of the significance of this [Zelda] series, and my aim is to develop a film that offers an immersive experience,’ Ball shared about his vision for the movie.
The Legend of Zelda movie is currently scheduled to be released on May 7, 2027.
