A fresh announcement verifies that DC Studios is vigorously working on new films featuring Batman and Wonder Woman, as part of their revamped DC Universe (DCU). In a recent chat, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, disclosed that these projects are underway, with the scripts being penned and creative teams advancing, all under the direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

David Zaslav says DC Studios is working on Batman and Wonder Woman movies now

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed in an interview with The New York Times that DC Studios is actively creating new Batman and Wonder Woman movies. In essence, he mentioned that Supergirl has already been filmed, they’re currently working on Wonder Woman, and similarly, they’re working on Batman. This statement underscores the 10-year plan of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the studio. Zaslav pointed out that DC was underdeveloped before but now stands as a significant strategic opportunity for the studio.

In a conversation with Urbana Play, James Gunn, one of the CEOs at DC Studios, confirmed that both “The Brave and the Bold” and the upcoming “Wonder Woman” movie are being written at this moment.

Gunn stated that the project won’t start until the scripts are finalized. At present, two scripts are being developed, and if they turn out well, we’ll move straight into production. He emphasizes the importance of having an exceptional script, particularly for characters like Batman and Wonder Woman, as they hold a significant legacy.

In the world of comics I follow, I’ll be witnessing a fresh take on Batman as a new character steps into the role, partnered with Damian Wayne, who takes up the mantle of Robin. This new adventure is being steered by director Andy Muschietti and promises to weave the Bat-Family deeper into the DC Universe. As for Wonder Woman, there’s a reboot on the horizon that will carry forward the mythos of Diana Prince, but details regarding casting and plot are still under wraps.

Zaslav commended the leadership skills of Gunn and Safran after the triumphant run of Superman in theaters, labeling the movie as a crucial component of a tactical shift that has allowed Warner Bros. to launch five back-to-back box office smashes. Gunn, who penned and directed Superman featuring David Corenswet, raked in an estimated $122 million at the domestic box office during its initial weekend.

Additionally, Zaslav affirmed that upcoming DCU projects will adhere to a priority for quality, aligning with the studio’s revised focus in this area.
