Borderlands 4 Has Over 200 Bobblehead Collectibles, But Good Luck Getting All Of Them

In Borderlands 4, similar to other open-world games, you can expect a variety of items to discover. However, what makes Marcus’ bobblehead replicas special is that they are skillfully concealed in tough-to-access locations, so finding them might require some extra effort on your part.

According to Randy Pitchford from Gearbox, the concept of these collectibles was inspired by the studio’s desire to fully exploit the game’s expanded move-set capabilities in Borderlands 4. With new travel methods like gliding, double-jumping, and using a grappling hook, navigating through areas, players are encouraged to explore distant parts of the map. As a reward for their efforts, they receive a keepsake or memento.

Graeme Timmons, the creative director of Borderlands 4, collaborated with several designers, artists, and engineers to determine that players needed discoverable items when they ventured into isolated or uninhabited locations, as stated by Pitchford on Twitter. The goal was to create an identifiable icon, a consistent element in each location, so players could easily recognize they had found it. This item should be straightforward, recognizable, reminiscent of something one might collect, and preferably have ties to our game’s universe.

This decision resulted in the selection of the Marcus bobblehead, and interestingly, there’s an in-game explanation for their presence on the secluded planet of Kairos. As Pitchford pointed out, there are more than 200 of these bobbleheads to gather, and he anticipates that most players will not come across any of them. He further mentioned that only a minute fraction of explorers will delve so deeply into Kairos as to find them all. Each one has its own backstory, he continued, while also hinting at a challenge for the players by providing a map indicating the locations of these collectibles.

In summary, more than 200 Marcus Bobbleheads are concealed throughout the game world of Kairos. It’s likely that most players won’t encounter any of these hidden treasures. A handful of dedicated explorers might uncover some of them, but only a tiny fraction will manage to find all of them due to their elusive nature. Each bobblehead has its own unique backstory.
