The Next Guilty Gear Game Has Been Cancelled, Franchise Is “Back To The Drawing Board” – Report

Since its release in 2021, Guilty Gear Strive has continued to represent the long-standing fighting game series by Arc System Works. Following its launch, four seasons of downloadable characters were added. However, during the latest Arc System Works Showcase, the game was noticeably missing. A new report suggests that the reason for this absence could be the cancellation of the next Guilty Gear game.

According to unnamed sources, as reported by Insider Gaming, Arc System Works has internally scrapped the upcoming Guilty Gear sequel. The cancellation supposedly took place within the last couple of weeks. Although the project has been put on hold and returned to the drawing board, the article suggests that the game isn’t definitively cancelled yet.

The news follows other recent indications that Arc System Works has more significant and surprising plans for the franchise. In an interview with Dexerto during Anime Expo, series producer Ken Miyauchi clarified that contrary to some beliefs, Guilty Gear Strive will not stop receiving updates after season four. Instead, he hinted at something big and unexpected that fans might not anticipate.

Although the future of Guilty Gear remains uncertain, it’s clear that Arc System Works is busy with various projects in development and publication by the company. The latest PlayStation State of Play concluded with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls – a 4vs4 fighting game featuring Marvel superheroes and villains. Meanwhile, the Arc System Works Showcase unveiled several upcoming titles, including a new version of Bubble Bobble.

You can grab Guilty Gear Strive right now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, or PC platforms!
