Let’s avoid discussing the outcomes of movies like Assassin’s Creed or Minecraft, but instead focus on titles such as Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog. Since their release, these films have built a significant fanbase.

As a hardcore Resident Evil gamer, I’ve been through the highs and lows of the movie adaptations. From Resident Evil: Apocalypse, which was more of a letdown, to Resident Evil: Damnation, a favorite among us fans, I’ve watched them all. Now, we’re looking forward to the next installment dropping in 2026. But here’s the catch – the director hinted that it might not stick as closely to the games as we gamers are hoping.

Resident Evil movie won’t be “obedient to the lore”

During an interview with GamesRadar+, director Zach Cregger openly discussed the film’s relationship to the games, stating that he is “absolutely not striving for slavish adherence to the established lore.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I shared: “I aim to craft a narrative that echoes the genuine feel of gaming, a story that resonates with your own experiences. I’m not stepping out of line in any significant way, but I understand that the online community might have strong opinions about this upcoming film.

Can’t they get the Resident Evil movie right to the storyline… Instead, focus on other residents of Raccoon City or the Ganados. Just deliver something watchable and coherent with the lore.

Others shared similar thoughts, emphasizing that even if the director has played Resident Evil, they should still adhere to the established lore. In essence, they are saying, “You’re trying to tell a story… but that story needs to be about Resident Evil.

Although some fans are still optimistic, they encourage others to hold off on judgement until more trailers or footage is released.
