New open-world pirate game is highly anticipated by players on Steam, but some of them must stay ashore for now

The much-awaited pirate game, Crosswind, has surged up to the 51th spot in the list of most wished-for games on Steam. Despite the alpha version tests being underway for quite a while, its relatively high system demands and scarcity have made it unreachable for many players.

What is Crosswind?

The game titled “Crosswind” is a thrilling survival adventure set in a pirate-themed world with magical undertones. This creation comes from the indie developers, Crosswind Crew. In this game, you assume the role of a hired sea captain who becomes ensnared in a power struggle between empires, pirate clans, and enigmatic dark forces following a botched assignment.

From the viewpoint of TPP (Top-Down Perspective), the gameplay can be broken down into two primary phases: land and sea. The initial phase primarily revolves around discovery, completing missions, and confronting adversaries, including formidable bosses. Given its survival theme, it’s essential that a construction and crafting system is not absent.

In the journey ahead, we’ll assume command, steering our chosen vessel through expansive seas. Crosswind provides a range of ships – from nimble cutters to mighty galleons – and as we advance, we’ll attract more crew members to our ranks. This is crucial in naval skirmishes, adding an element of thrill during the climactic boarding actions.

In the game called “Crosswind”, you have the option to engage either solo or participate in a multiplayer setting. Here, you can collaborate or challenge other players depending on your preference.

Details of the alpha version and high system requirements

The game titled “Crosswind” is exclusively making its way to PC platforms, and as of now, the release date remains unknown. Since June 25, closed tests for the alpha version have been underway, during which anyone can register participation. However, not everyone will necessarily gain access, as the developers mentioned that spots are quite limited at this time.

The alpha version includes:

  1. three diverse biomes, each with unique resources, enemies, and environmental conditions;
  2. three bosses with several difficulty levels;
  3. three playable ships and one NPC trading ship;
  4. ground, sea battles and boarding;
  5. total content of about 30 hours.

Although games like this tend to have minimal system requirements, allowing many players to enjoy them, the case of Crosswind is somewhat distinct. While the game itself isn’t too demanding on hardware, the technical specifications for the alpha version aren’t the most lenient.

For a seamless gaming experience during testing, it’s suggested to utilize powerful computer systems and Solid State Drive (SSD) storage devices. They mentioned that future updates would focus on optimization to further enhance performance.
