Aaron Keller, director of Overwatch 2, expresses his strong desire for the game to eventually inspire a television series, as well as continue the popular animated short stories that fans adore.
Leading up to the debut of the initial Overwatch game, Blizzard unveiled numerous animated videos to present fresh characters and generate excitement for their hero-based shooting title.
After the game’s debut, there was a decrease in the frequency of animated shorts, even though they were highly acclaimed within the community.
Despite the fact that Overwatch 2 has produced a few short episodes, they’re not being released as frequently as before, and Aaron Keller aims to alter this situation, also intending to launch a long-awaited Overwatch series for the first time – something fans have eagerly anticipated for years.
Overwatch 2 could finally get a TV series
During a chat with Twitch streamer Jay3, Keller expressed interest in revisiting Overwatch 2’s narrative as the company chose to cancel PvE content because of underwhelming sales.
When asked about the possibility of a TV series, Keller said the team would “love to do that.”

Besides being simply a TV series, an often-discussed topic among our players is that Overwatch seems to have fallen short in terms of its storyline and background details.
Despite significant enhancements in Overwatch since the discontinuation of PvE, due to the addition of Perks and long-desired elements like hero bans and map voting, Keller feels that the game hasn’t yet reached its full potential.
In conversation about Shorts, Keller showed interest in reintroducing them and significantly enriching the narrative of the game.
To assert that Overwatch 2 is operating at its full potential, I think we should see a return of some of the previous short videos,” he noted.
As a die-hard fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of an Overwatch 2 TV series, and it seemed like we were on the brink of making that dream a reality. However, according to renowned journalist Jason Schreier, plans for an Overwatch TV series were indeed in the works, along with ones for Warcraft and Diablo. Unfortunately, these plans took a turn when Blizzard Entertainment decided to take legal action against Netflix over the poaching of their CFO, Spencer Neumann, which ultimately led to the cancellation of these exciting projects.
Netflix has experienced significant triumphs by turning well-known video games into successful animated series, such as Arcane, Castlevania, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which have all become huge sensations.
It seems that the developers of Overwatch 2 have larger aspirations for the game’s narrative, and they may be exploring these ideas using different platforms in the future, even though the original storyline for the game has been put on hold.
