In the upcoming season of “Dexter: Resurrection,” the actors hinted at a complex reunion between Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and his son, a quest for truth by Detective Angel Batista, and the uncertain fate of Harrison (Jack Alcott). The new installment follows Michael C. Hall’s character as the beloved serial killer recovers from a near-fatal gunshot wound at the end of “New Blood” and relocates to New York City to protect his son, Harrison Morgan.
At the location, Dexter Morgan swiftly discovers himself in an extraordinary predicament: extended an invitation to a social event with other notorious killers, courtesy of wealthy benefactor Leon Prater (portrayed by Peter Dinklage). This eclectic group of murderers includes Uma Thurman’s character Charley, Krysten Ritter as Mia Lapierre, David Dastmalchian’s role as Gareth, Neil Patrick Harris playing Lowell, and Eric Stonestreet portraying Al.
In a recent interview, TopMob met with the actors from Paramount+’s newest television series, currently available for streaming, as it debuts its initial two episodes. During this conversation, they discussed their characters and hinted at the complex and captivating plots that the show is set to unveil.
Jack Alcott, the actor portraying Harrison Morgan, Dexter’s son, expressed that it’s quite an ordeal to encounter a person you may have taken the life of, which in this case is your father. He also hinted at the abundance of material yet to be uncovered as they delve into their significant reunion, stating that it’s both intimidating and offers numerous opportunities for character development.
As a devotee of the silver screen, I’d say if I were the guiding spirit by Harrison Ford’s side, I’d likely echo the same advice James Remar gives to Dexter: “Stay true to yourself, take things slow, and avoid getting caught.
The actor likewise hinted at Harrison’s future, suggesting that considering his possible future career decision, “we might as well say he’ll follow in familiar footsteps.
In the series “Dexter: Resurrection,” one notable figure is Detective Angel Batista, portrayed by David Zayas. This character previously enjoyed a close bond with Dexter Morgan. Now, he’s on a mission to uncover the truth and reveal the true identity behind the Bay Harbor Butcher.
The actor acknowledged that he portrays one of the most truthful policemen he’s ever played. He went on to discuss the internal struggle his character will face, as his strong sense of justice conflicts with his deep loyalty towards Dexter and his defense of him.
In our conversation, we’ve had the pleasure of speaking with an impressive ensemble of actors: Jack Alcott portrays Harrison Morgan, James Remar takes on the role of Harry Morgan, David Zayas plays Angel Batista, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine is Blessing Kamara, Dominic Fumusa assumes the character of Melvin Oliva, Kadia Saraf embodies Claudette Wallace, and Emilia Suárez brings Elsa Rivera to life.
Below, you will find the discussions held with each participant, where they delve into their character’s adventures and discuss the enduring popularity of the saga known as Dexter.

Jack Alcott Teases A Complicated Father-Son Reunion
“There’s Just So Many Unresolved Feelings…”
In “Dexter: Resurrection,” character Harrison Morgan (played by Jack Alcott) begins anew in New York City, grappling with the guilt of having killed his own father in “Dexter: New Blood.” Yet, life proves challenging for him as he stumbles into a complex predicament following an impulsive act of killing an unsavory individual.
In this circumstance, he would greatly benefit from his father’s wisdom, but as the new season starts, they haven’t seen each other yet. Although it’s likely that they’ll meet up at some point, when they do, there will likely be a lot of feelings involved.
- TopMob: “One can only assume, going into this show, that you will eventually cross paths with Dexter once again. Hypothetically, when that moment comes to pass, what can you tease to audiences about the evolution of that father and son dynamic in the show and how will have changed since the last time we saw them?”
Jack Alcott: The transformations it undergoes are essentially an evolution in their own right. Of course, when someone thought they were deceased but later learn they’re not, that’s a significant shock, especially for Harrison, who, as you may recall, has been experiencing hallucinations and seeing deceased individuals already.
To encounter your father, who you presumably have killed, is quite something and is plausible. You understand the situation, but when he actually appears, well, it’s not a dream – he’s right there in front of you. It’s a shock that could easily knock anyone off their feet and completely change their perspective on reality.
It seems like this situation provides ample room for discovery. There are numerous unresolved emotions, both positive and negative, waiting to be unraveled. It’s an opportunity to shed light on hidden aspects, to express things that were not articulated clearly before, in the openness of both daylight and darkness. To put it simply, there is a wealth of unexplored territory here. And while it may be frightening, it also presents many possibilities for growth and understanding.
James Remar on What Harry Morgan Would Say to Harrison
“Take It Easy and Don’t Get Caught…”
In a different scenario, we might imagine James Remar as the guiding spirit of Harrison Morgan, offering counsel not just to his son Dexter Morgan, but also to his grandson. This would be similar to him serving as an angel on one shoulder, guiding him through life’s complexities.
- TopMob: “James, you obviously exist as kind of ghost council of sorts to Dexter, Morgan, but if you were the angel on Harrison’s shoulder, what would you be saying to him as he’s navigating his predicament throughout this season, and how would that advice change with him compared to Dexter?”
James Remar expresses his thoughts by saying: “I think I’d essentially share similar advice with him.” What stands out the most is that “I would advise him to be true to himself, relax, and avoid getting into trouble…
Interestingly enough, it’s common for many young men to express, “I don’t want to resemble my father in any way.” Yet, often, they find themselves admiring their grandfathers instead, saying, “I aspire to be like him.
Indeed, Harry was a hero within the Miami Metro Police Department, and surprisingly, Dexter joined the same force. Without giving too much away, it’s safe to say that the saying “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” definitely applies here.
David Zayas on If Angel Batista and Dexter’s Friendship Can Pull Through
“His Sense of Justice Is Going to Clash With the Fact of How Loyal He Was to Dexter…”
Detective Angel Batista, portrayed by David Zayas, used to be extremely close friends with Michael C. Hall’s character, Dexter Morgan. However, now he’s pursuing his one-time best friend to verify his theories: that Dexter is actually the real Bay Harbor Butcher all along.
- TopMob: “For all intents and purposes, Batista knows Dexter’s real identity and knows what he’s done and is simply looking for that proof. However, would you say that the end of the road is certainly kind of that deep feeling of betrayal and possible arrest, or do you think there’s any world where their previous friendship will allow something different to unfold?”
David Zayas: Indeed, the world is full of possibilities. If we recall Batista’s character development from the start, it’s quite clear that he’s likely one of the most sincere police officers I’ve ever portrayed in a role.
I believe his unwavering loyalty towards Dexter and his strong sense of justice will lead to internal conflict as he grapples with defending Dexter against my accusations. This struggle is what makes his character intriguing in this journey, making it a delight to portray him.
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine on Becoming a Friend to Dexter Morgan
Blessing Kamara Quickly Grows Close With Dexter in NYC.
In the series “Dexter: Resurrection,” Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine takes on the role of Blessing Kamara, a friendly rideshare driver who develops an alliance with Dexter, offering him support and guidance.
- TopMob: “Ntare, speaking of friends, your character comes into the story and quickly gets close to Dexter and his new life in New York City. How would you say that their friendship opens up new avenues for the show to explore with Dexter as a character, and what do you think he would think if he ever learned what Batista knows?”
It seems that the actor is hinting at some intriguing revelations throughout the series, which may help address certain questions. Moreover, he points out that the writers have skillfully crafted an atmosphere filled with joy, hope, and a familiar sense of comfort. This character, in a unique way, welcomes Dexter into his life, allowing him to carry out his crimes under his very roof. It’s this proximity of crime and the character’s own personal space that creates dramatic tension, as we watch the character navigate this delicate balance between knowledge and ignorance…
Dominic Fumusa and Kadia Saraf on How Harrison Should Be Scared of Their Competent Cops
“I Think Together They Make a Very, Very Potent [Team].”
In the show, Dominic Fumusa and Kadia Saraf portray detectives Oliva and Claudette. They’re tasked with probing into a gruesome homicide, though they are unaware at this point that it was perpetrated by Harrison Morgan.
- TopMob: “Dominic and Katia, you are both investigating a murder throughout the whole season, committed by a familiar face. Can you both talk about why your respective characters are so good at their jobs, and why Harrison should be scared?”
Dominic Fumusa: Essentially, the NYPD is considered the top police force globally. Therefore, it’s reasonable to feel intimidated from that perspective. However, regarding the unique dynamics between these two characters, they excel in amplifying each other’s abilities.
In a distinctive manner, it seems to me that Officer Oliva has a special comprehension of Claudette that no one else around them shares. This allows him to effectively utilize her abilities, provide space for her to excel, encourage her efforts, and consistently support her. To add, Officer Oliva is an old-school detective who thrives in the traditional NYPD atmosphere, and I believe their partnership is highly effective and powerful.
Kadia Saraf: Claudette swiftly moves from point A to B, like an arrow. Oliva, on the other hand, represents the favorable winds or surroundings that guide and accelerate her, without the need for a lever. This way, she can reach her destination quickly, as there would be too many distractions and resistances otherwise. In essence, these two forces, when combined, are both awe-inspiring and daunting.
Emilia Suárez on How Elsa Is Key to Keeping Harrison In the Light
“She’s Actually Speaking to the Part of [Harrison] That Has Yet to Have the Opportunity to Flourish.”
As a confidant and fellow employee at our shared workplace, I am Emilia Suárez, a beacon of support for Harrison. In numerous aspects, I serve as the lone source of guidance that illuminates his path in life.
- TopMob: Now, Emilia, your character [Elsa] is very close to Harrison, and in a lot of ways a pure force in his life. How does she help Harrison to stay on the right side of things, instead of falling deeper into darkness?
Emilia Suárez believes that she positively impacts Harrison. Her straightforwardness, kindness, and apparent lack of interest in games, coupled with her genuine concern for others, make her someone who is not afraid to address issues openly and honestly.
As a movie enthusiast, I believe the authentic goodness within Harrison shines through her eyes. Consequently, she can address what is genuinely noble about him and help nurture that aspect. It’s not just a facade or the persona he tries to present; instead, she speaks directly to his true essence.
She’s essentially addressing the untapped potential within him, which has yet to blossom fully. In my opinion, she serves as a truly pure influence in his life. It’s intriguing to observe him with someone who encourages him to act positively and breathe freely.
The Cast of Dexter: Resurrection on Why the Show’s Legacy Perseveres
“It’s About Serial Killers, Which Is Infinitely Interesting…”
- TopMob: “The legacy of Dexter is significant, and there’s something to be said about how apt the title of this season is with the franchise, and how it is able to recover and continually come back and engage and entertain viewers. What do you both feel is so special about this series overall, and why it is able to continually connect with audiences in unique ways?”
Jack Alcott: Essentially, I believe it showcases an extraordinary manifestation of human duality, focusing on anomalies. It delves into the lives of the most exceptional individuals, particularly serial killers, which are inherently captivating. Yet, paradoxically, it manages to remain relatable because that’s what truly fosters a sense of connection.
When immersing myself in a story, be it a movie, book, or play, I strive to connect with it on some level. To recognize elements that mirror my own experiences, emotions, or thoughts is truly remarkable. This ability to relate, even when the situation seems extraordinary, adds an extra layer of magic and appreciation. The writers of this show have done an exceptional job in creating such relatable characters, and Michael C Hall’s performance as the protagonist has only amplified that connection.
James Remar remarks about Michael C. Hall’s portrayal of Dexter: “Oh my God, he’s so impeccably neutral, yet appears to comply easily with civilians. Yet, he’s incredibly intense and passionate when it comes to his dark passenger – a deep-rooted impulse. Remarkably, he follows his father’s rule of not killing innocents.
In the beginning, Harry told Dexter something interesting: there are many individuals who, in his view, have earned some kind of punishment. Whether this idea of deserving has any relevance or not, it’s true that most people have someone they’ve been wronged by to such an extent that they harbor a desire to harm them. What’s intriguing is that Dexter seems to provide a unique, protected environment where these dark feelings can be explored without causing actual damage. It’s ironic that this seemingly small segment of society turns out to have such a vast audience, with millions of viewers tuning in.
David Zayas expresses, in essence, that they’ve got an outstanding team of writers for their show. What makes them exceptional is their thorough research and ability to seamlessly tie the storylines from the initial series through ‘New Blood’ up to ‘Resurrection.’
Reading the first draft of ‘Resurrection,’ I was struck by its brilliance, and it inspired me to delve deeper into my role as an actor. The aim is to discover various aspects that could potentially enhance the narrative.
Ultimately, it boils down to the creation process itself. Every dedicated individual, from the crew, to the actors, to the directors, everyone contributes to this wondrous atmosphere that makes acting such a delightful endeavor.
Indeed, aside from the scriptwriters, let me clarify that David Zayas has been part of it since the start. He is a significant factor that attracts viewers. One might say he’s a major attraction, much like Michael C. Hall – another big draw.
We are fortunate to have individuals like Peter Dinklage and Uma Thurman, remarkable talents who were eager to collaborate with these creators. This aspect was one of the reasons I found it exhilarating to be involved in this production.
Kadia Saraf: It evolves with the times. I would say our perception and comprehension of subtle complexities have significantly improved since the show first aired. We didn’t delve into nuances… More so focused on particular groups or individuals. We lacked understanding.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve come to realize that the world portrayed in this series is incredibly layered, and it’s essential to grasp that none of us are purely good or evil. This show strikes a chord with many because we can identify bits of ourselves in at least one character. Indeed, I see myself reflected in some characters too.
Dominic Fumusa: In simple terms, I believe one key factor that contributes to the show’s success is its unique blend of delving into intense, somber themes while maintaining a touch of humor. Despite dealing with some of the gravest and, let’s face it, life-threatening topics, there’s an air of levity in the storyline.
It seems that even though Dexter Morgan, the character played by Michael C. Hall, is an ultimate anti-hero, we continue to hope for his success throughout the series. Remarkably, the writers have managed to keep us engaged and rooting for him, a feat rarely achieved in television history, especially over such a long period. It’s truly remarkable!
