A man from China went missing under mysterious circumstances, having vanished into the mountain range without any prior notice, as a means of escaping the memories of his former partner following a heartrending separation.

Overcoming heartache can be challenging. Some individuals prefer working out at the gym as a means to release their emotions, while others might find solace in indulging in their favorite type of ice cream, though it may seem like a ‘tear-flavored’ comfort for some.

Yet, one individual’s method of dealing with a difficult situation alarmed his loved ones when he abandoned his mobile device at home and vanished into the wilderness for a six-day escape, aiming to erase memories of his ex.

Man sparks search after disappearing into mountains to forget his ex

According to the South China Morning Post, I, being a certain Xiaolin, departed from my residence in Hangzhou on June 20th. By early hours of the next day, approximately 1 AM, I was spotted in the Dalang Mountains.

In three days’ time, his elder sibling contacted the authorities, informing them that he was missing, as he had not been in contact with his younger brother since June 18, the day prior to his vanishing.

During the course of their probe, officers dropped by his apartment, discovering that he had forgotten his mobile device there.

In no time at all, a large-scale search effort was mobilized, involving over 100 police officers and local residents. They used drones, K9 units, and even sonar equipment to scour the mountainous terrain thoroughly.

Even though they had been trying hard, it wasn’t until June 26 that Xiaolin made an appearance – he was spotted on surveillance cameras in a park, dressed shabbily and clearly unwell.

As per Deputy Director Zhu Liliang of Yuhang Police Station, Xiaolin successfully traversed a distance of 40 kilometers through the mountains, sustaining himself by drinking water from natural streams and consuming wild fruits and berries to survive. Intriguingly, he didn’t consume any food for the initial three days of his journey.

He didn’t have any survival gear at all, as it turned out he just wanted to escape following a difficult breakup and didn’t plan on staying long.

Upon locating him, his garments were worn and torn, stated Zhu. For the initial three days, he abstained from both eating and drinking. As his body eventually weakened beyond endurance, he quenched his thirst from the mountain’s fresh waters and subsisted on provisions found scattered near village dwellings.

Xiaolin vowed to avoid causing his loved ones worry once more, having understood the alarm triggered by his absence.
