Ghost Of Yotei Brings Back Kurosawa Mode, Adds New Modes From Samurai Film Directors

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that back in 2020, Sucker Punch reached an agreement with the estate of the illustrious late Samurai film director, Akira Kurosawa, to incorporate a black-and-white Kurosawa mode into Ghost of Tsushima. This week’s State of Play for the upcoming sequel, Ghost of Yotei, saw Sucker Punch unveil that this beloved feature is set to return. But it’s not just Kurosawa mode making a reappearance; there are other subtle nods to the rich tapestry of Samurai cinema as well!

Toward the conclusion of the gameplay analysis video, developers of Ghost of Yotei announced a collaboration with renowned director Takashi Miike for an additional game mode. This partnership promises players a closer look at the combat sequences, delivering a more intense, visceral experience complete with enhanced mud and blood effects.

In our project, we are collaborating for the third time with the renowned director Shinichirō Watanabe, best known for Samurai Champloo. Interestingly, he has directed a unique segment within the game, infusing it with his signature low-fi tunes that enrich Ghost of Yotei’s soundtrack.

Among the significant disclosures during State of Play, it was revealed that the main character in Ghost of Yotei, named Atsu, isn’t confined to traditional Samurai or shinobi weapons. Instead, Atsu has the freedom to amass an assortment of weapons and use them at her discretion. Additionally, Atsu is capable of forming alliances with other characters, such as a wolf.

Sony additionally unveiled two exclusive Ghost of Yotei PS5 packages, set for release concurrently with the game on October 2nd.
