Larry David Has Announced A Wildly Different Follow-Up To Curb Your Enthusiasm At HBO, And It Involves The Obamas

After spending around 25 years on television, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” concluded last year, having aired 12 seasons and 120 episodes… However, if you assumed that Larry David would retire after creating his second successful comedy series, you’d be mistaken. The TV legend and co-creator of “Seinfeld” has arranged a contract to develop an entirely new show at HBO. Remarkably, this upcoming project deviates significantly from “Curb,” and it involves Larry David teaming up with Higher Ground Productions, which is led by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.

Today, the announcement was made about a new project through a press release. Although the show doesn’t have an official name just yet, it is being referred to as a “humorous half-hour limited series focused on sketch comedy” that will satirize American history. The timing of this project’s creation seems fitting, since it aims to debut in 2026 – marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming episodes are being crafted by none other than Larry David and Jeff Schaffer from “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Not only will they collaborate on script-writing, but Schaffer holds an executive producer role and is even stepping into the director’s chair.

Larry David has shared an announcement regarding the progress of the show, and it’s quite intriguing on its own – even taking a few playful jabs at Jeff Bezos and his lavish wedding as added entertainment. As quoted by David:

“I’ve got some news about the show… And just for fun, let me throw in a few remarks about Mr. Bezos’ extravagant nuptials.

When Curb came to an end, I marked the occasion with a three-day foam extravaganza. However, an intense allergic response to the bubbles left me longing for the tranquility of my beekeeping lifestyle, where I collected organic honey from the blossoms in my pasture. Sadly, one day my bees inexplicably disappeared, and now, with a heavy heart, I find myself drawn back to television, seeking solace amidst the loss of my cherished hive.

It hadn’t occurred to me that following retirement advice from Jason Statham’s more recent films could be a common practice, but Larry David seems to make it seem plausible.

Apart from David, it’s uncertain who else will appear prominently on the show, but HBO’s announcement hints at well-known figures. As you might guess, other actors from “Curb Your Enthusiasm” may be included (no specific names are given), and the sketch series will also welcome significant guest stars.

It’s intriguing to see how the show unfolds, given that Larry David began his career in sketch comedy. Before creating Seinfeld, the comedian made his small screen debut as a writer and performer on the short-lived show Fridays, where Seinfeld actor Michael Richards also appeared. After the cancellation of that show, he became one of the writers for Saturday Night Live.
