As a fervent fan, I’m thrilled to share that Nintendo has officially announced the abolition of the Game Voucher system, which means no more budget-friendly ways to grab Switch games will be available. This change is part of their ongoing strategy, and it’s intriguing to see how this might impact our favorite gaming platform.
Nintendo offers an extensive collection of timeless games, yet a significant portion of these remain priced comparably to their original release date, making even well-liked games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild appear relatively expensive long after their debut.
A popular strategy among gamers to save some cash was utilizing the Game Voucher program. With this system, fans could effectively buy two games for $100 as a package deal, which was less expensive than purchasing each game separately if their individual prices exceeded $50.
Nevertheless, Nintendo has stated that they will be ending this particular feature, yet it remains functional for some significant forthcoming games.
Hurry up and get your Nintendo Game Vouchers ready for Pokemon
Starting from January 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM (local time), Game Vouchers will no longer be offered for purchase. According to the Nintendo Support page, this information is confirmed. Therefore, you have approximately six months to acquire these vouchers before they’re discontinued from sale.
Regardless of when the January 30 deadline passes, all vouchers you buy will remain valid for a whole year before they expire.
These game accessories can only be utilized for games played on Switch 1. However, this restriction doesn’t apply to Pokemon Legends: Z-A since it’s coming out on both the original Switch and a new one in October of this year. The same is expected for Metroid Prime 4, which is set to launch in 2025. Therefore, you still have opportunities to use these accessories on significant releases not just this year but also in 2026.
