A new spin-off of The Big Bang Theory is approaching, but its plot is so incredibly strange that you wouldn’t even begin to fathom it. Here’s a clue: it delves into the realms of the multiverse.
Initially, when The Big Bang Theory premiered in 2007, it seemed unlikely that it would last this long. However, here we are, many years later, and the show has persisted, not just through its original 12-season run but also via spinoffs.
Initially, there was the show “Young Sheldon,” which spanned over seven seasons independently. Later in late 2024, the film “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” premiered and has since been reprised for additional episodes. However, that’s not the end of it…
In the year 2023, a new spinoff series was first hinted at, centered around comic book store owner Stuart Bloom. Fast forward to two years later, this concept has now been officially approved for production by HBO Max according to Variety’s reports. The plot, as it turns out, is surprisingly groundbreaking.

New Big Bang Theory spinoff’s crazy synopsis
Titled ‘Stuart’s Unsuccessful Cosmic Rescue,’ the series puts Kevin Sussman in the limelight as Stuart, with familiar faces like Lauren Lapkus (Denise), Brian Posehn (Bert), and John Ross Bowie (Barry Kripke) returning to reprise their roles.
[Official Synopsis]
In a turn of events, comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom finds himself on a mission to mend the fabric of reality. This predicament arises when he inadvertently damages a device constructed by Sheldon and Leonard, leading to a catastrophic multiverse collision. Accompanied by his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and the often-irritating Barry Kripke (a quantum physicist), Stuart embarks on this daunting quest. Throughout their journey, they encounter alternate versions of beloved characters from The Big Bang Theory. As the title suggests, their voyage is fraught with difficulties.
In summary, they’ve created a multiverse in a Big Bang-like manner using some contraption by Sheldon and Leonard. Once this device is destroyed, it gives rise to numerous alternate realities. Now, it’s Stuart’s task to sort things out – or at least give it his best shot.
The show is often compared to something that the characters from “The Big Bang Theory” might enjoy or debate over, as stated by screenwriter Zak Penn. Co-creator Chuck Lorre further explained it could be a program they would have found fascinating, frustrating, and discussed heatedly. Notably, it features a substantial amount of computer-generated imagery (CGI).
At this moment, we don’t have any information about when the upcoming spinoff will be broadcasted. Given that it was recently approved, it seems reasonable to anticipate its debut no sooner than 2026.
