Pokemon Go Solgaleo Raids: Best Counters, Weaknesses, And More Tips

In the world of Pokemon Go, a fresh raid boss has made an appearance. For a brief period, Solgaleo, the emblematic character from Pokemon Sun, can be encountered in five-star raids.

This version maintains the original meaning while using more natural and easy-to-read language.

Since 2022, the legendary Pokemon has been playable in the mobile game. However, this marks its debut as a raid boss. Earlier, it could only be obtained by evolving Cosmoem, so if you missed the chance to get a Cosmog, now’s your opportunity to collect Solgaleo instead.

Just as with other renowned Pokémon, Solgaleo is a challenging adversary. To assist you in overcoming and capturing it before it departs from raids next week, we’ve prepared some helpful strategies for you.

Solgaleo Raid Schedule

From July 8th through July 14th, Solgaleo will make an appearance as a five-star raid boss. This means you have only a short window of time, approximately six days, to capture one before Solgaleo is replaced by the next raid boss, Terrakion.

During specific intervals, Solgaleo raids are expected. However, the optimum chance to participate in one is during the Solgaleo Raid Hour on July 9th. This legendary Pokemon will dominate most gyms around you from 6-7 PM (local time), providing a higher than normal chance for you to engage in battles and capture it.

Solgaleo Weaknesses

Even though Solgaleo looks fiery, it’s actually a Pokemon that specializes in psychic and steel abilities. This means it’s vulnerable to just a few specific types.

Because psychic and steel types of Pokemon have no common weaknesses, no Pokemon type will inflict quadruple damage on Solgaleo. However, these types of attacks will still deal super-effective damage to the legendary Pokemon:

Since psychic and steel types of Pokemon don’t share any weaknesses, there is no Pokemon type that can deal quadruple damage to Solgaleo. Nevertheless, certain types of attacks will still inflict super-effective damage on this legendary Pokemon:

  • Fire
  • Ground
  • Ghost
  • Dark

Best Solgaleo Counters

When facing off against Solgaleo in battle, any Pokémon that has a type advantage over it could prove useful. Here are some suggested picks for a Solgaleo raid:

1. A Water-type like Blastoise, as Solgaleo is weak to Water attacks.
2. An Electric-type such as Zapdos, which also deals super effective damage against Solgaleo.
3. A Fairy-type like Sylveon or Gardevoir, since they are highly effective against Solgaleo too.
4. A Steel-type such as Metagross or Aggron, which can also give you an edge when battling Solgaleo.

Types To Avoid

Due to its unique typing combination, Solgaleo is resistant to several common types of Pokémon, including dragon, fairy, rock, grass, ice, and normal. These attacks will only cause half the usual damage when used against the legendary Pokemon. Moreover, poison and psychic-type attacks deal even less damage, so it’s best to avoid using these Pokémon during a Solgaleo raid altogether.

Can Solgaleo Be Shiny?

I’m really bummed out because the sparkling Solgaleo isn’t accessible in Pokémon GO just yet. All you’ll find when taking on raids are the regular white ones. But don’t worry, you can grab a shiny Solgaleo in games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for Nintendo Switch. For now, we’ve got to be patient and wait until it arrives in our Pokémon GO collection.

How To Fuse With Necrozma

Among legendary Pokémon, Solgaleo and Lunala stand out because they have the exceptional ability to merge with another legendary creature called Necrozma.

After gathering sufficient Solar Fusion Power, you can merge Solgaleo with Necrozma to create Dusk Mane Necrozma. This fusion requires 1,000 Fusion Energy, 30 pieces of Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy. The two legendary Pokemon will stay merged until you choose to split them apart yourself.

At dusk, Necrozma transforms into Dusk Mane Necrozma, a formidable Pokemon. It retains Solgaleo’s dual typing of psychic and steel, but also learns the strong steel-type Charged Attack, Sunsteel Strike. This makes it an effective opponent against fairy and ice types Pokemon.
