Toward the close of last month, Funcom implemented long-awaited updates for the endgame in Dune: Awakening‘s player versus player Deep Desert zone, transforming half of this area into a player versus environment (PvE) space. Regrettably, a recent update rolled out earlier this week has reversed these changes in the Deep Desert, leading to numerous players losing their bases, gear, and vehicles due to the shift back to PvP combat. To address this issue, Funcom has issued an apology letter detailing corrective measures they intend to implement for affected players.
Discussing the origin of this error, Funcom admitted it was a “mishap during our project development and internal communication” that was supposed to transpire with the next Coriolis cycle but not affect the current one. They deeply regret this occurrence and wish to express their apologies. They acknowledge that the situation should have been managed more effectively. As a consequence, they’ve made adjustments to their internal procedures and aim to improve in the future.
Funcom has stated they will make every effort to compensate players who experienced losses due to this issue, by refunding their vehicles and items. Those impacted should locate their reimbursed items in the “Claim Rewards” section within the game by the end of the current week.
The developer additionally detailed some objectives for upcoming improvements, such as:
1. Eliminating known vulnerabilities (like third-party cheat engines, client hacks, or misuse of in-game mechanics).
2. Implementing user-friendly enhancements.
3. Resolving persistent gameplay problems.
Moreover, it mentioned that it has already addressed issues such as account/permission forgery, vehicle ownership seizure, durability repair, and item duplication during building dismantle.
For individuals experiencing issues with missing items and vehicles due to bugs, not related to the latest update, Funcom kindly asks for your understanding as they are currently dealing with a substantial number of customer support tickets. They are working diligently to resolve these issues as fast as possible, even addressing old tickets from players who didn’t receive proper reimbursement at launch. Additionally, Funcom shared that there is an entire team within the company specifically tasked with preventing and rectifying vehicle and item loss on server crashes, disconnections, server transfers, and travel between maps.
