Pope Leo Popplio Pokemon Meme Becomes Reality When Holy Father Signs A Fan’s Card

Ever since Pope Leo XIV was elected, fans of Pokemon have been amusing themselves with the Popplio meme. This water-type creature, resembling a seal and wearing a mitre, has become quite popular. However, a fortunate and dedicated Pokemon enthusiast recently got the chance to make this joke a semi-reality when the Pope signed his Popplio card during a trip to Italy for the youth.

In conversation about his Reddit post, ReptileCake mentioned that Pope Leo gave a subtle smile in response to their interaction. Accompanied by him were two cards; one intended for the Pope’s blessing, and another for signing.

Earlier this week, ReptileCake mentioned on Reddit that they named it Popplio since it reminded them of Pope Leo. He chuckled, likely out of politeness, but it seemed he recognized the reference to Pokémon cards as he displayed it to his guards. When I requested him to sign a copy for me, he was more than willing to do so and appeared pleased.

When queried about parting with or appraising his card, ReptileCake plans to keep it indefinitely without worrying about sending it off elsewhere.

He stated, “Absolutely not! I have no plans to discard this item; it’s a prized possession of mine. To keep it safe, I’ll store it in a protective sleeve and UV-resistant case.” He expressed concern about potentially damaging or losing the card during transport.

By affixing this signature, this card transforms into one of the most renowned Pokémon cards globally. Popplio was particularly famous as one of the initial creatures in the franchise’s seventh generation games, Pokémon Sun and Moon, which debuted on Nintendo 3DS in 2016.
