Man chased by police dies after being sucked into airplane engine

It’s been reported that a man, who apparently pushed past a security barrier at an airport, lost his life when he was sucked into the plane’s engine following the incident.

On July 8, 2025, a shocking event transpired at the Milan Bergamo Airport in Italy, leaving tourists aghast as they watched a man tragically get pulled into an airplane engine.

Based on the information received, Andrea Russoa, a 35-year-old resident from Calcinate County, Bergamo, was neither a traveler on that particular day nor did they work at the airport.

Despite attempts to prevent it, he successfully bypassed security measures and found himself on the runway. Officials attempted to apprehend him when they noticed him illegally entering restricted areas, but unfortunately, they failed to prevent him from boarding a departing plane. This reckless action ultimately resulted in a tragic outcome.

According to an eyewitness account, initially, he forcefully collided with the shields surrounding the right aircraft engine.

Later on, he ended up near or was pulled towards the propeller of the left engine, either by his own actions or the force of it. As we attempted to climb the stairs, we witnessed the entire incident,” they continued.

Volotea posted an announcement on X, sending their deep condolences to the man’s family.

I’m sorry to share this news, but unfortunately, there was a fatality on flight V73511 BGY-OVD that wasn’t associated with Volotea. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. Mental health support was offered to both passengers and crew, and they have now safely arrived at OVD on a rearranged flight.

Furthermore, due to this occurrence, numerous planes destined for the airport were redirected to different airports, and some flights were unfortunately terminated.

Based on reports from La voce del Patriota, an Italian news outlet, and as The Sun suggests, the most likely explanation for this individual’s actions is that it may have been a pre-planned act of self-harm.
