For years, as a devoted fan of the Highlander series, I’ve kept tabs on the attempts to revive the franchise, and it seems like we might finally see this movie come to life, with new actors joining the production. The latest actor to join the cast is Russell Crowe, who will be teaming up again with Henry Cavill, his co-star from Man of Steel. Interestingly enough, their first encounter wasn’t on the set of Man of Steel.
The Story Behind The Advice Russell Crowe Once Gave Henry Cavill
When “Man of Steel” premiered, the cast made an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show”. During this time, Russell Crowe reminisced about meeting a 16-year-old Henry Cavill. This encounter took place at Stowe School, where Crowe was filming “Proof of Life” alongside Meg Ryan. At the school, Cavill was a student. Crowe recognized Cavill as an exceptional rugby player and struck up a conversation with him. Interested in acting, Cavill sought advice from Crowe, who shared some insights…
Instead of avoiding his questions or repeating myself since I get asked these frequently, I chose to be honest during our short interaction, and presented the fact that overcoming this challenge is something he must take upon himself. No one will hand it to him.
Crowe shared that after some time, he prepared a couple of gift boxes: one for Merlin Hanbury-Tenison, who played Crowe’s on-screen son in the movie and also attended the same school, and another for Cavill. The box for Cavill contained a written note along with it. As Crowe continued his tale…
In essence, I’ve placed the quote “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” on Henry, which translates to “If you’re determined, you take the first step towards achieving it.
In the course of time, during the filming of “Man of Steel”, Crowe appears to have inquired of Cavill whether they had previously crossed paths, at which point Cavill seemed to recall their prior encounter.
Cavill And Crowe Will Reunite In The Highlander Reboot
Russell Crowe and Henry Cavill are expected to reunite shortly, as they’ve both been cast in the upcoming Highlander remake helmed by Chad Stahelski. Unlike their brief appearances in the Superman movie, these two actors may share a larger portion of the screen together in this new project.
In the upcoming reboot, Cavill is set to star as the main character, a Scottish immortal named Conor Macleod, similar to the original 1985 film character. Crowe has agreed to take on the role of Macloud’s mentor, a part that was once played by Sean Connery in the original movie. There’s some uncertainty about whether Dave Bautista is still involved in the reboot, as he had previously signed up for the villainous role, but it’s been so long since then that his attachment to the project is now questionable.
It’s anticipated that the production of Highlander will start later in this year, which means Henry Cavill and his long-time companion Russell Crowe will reunite soon. If Crowe has picked up any additional acting wisdom during this time, I’m certain Cavill would be thrilled to learn from him.
